True, I also hate it when people on here bash women for using medicaid/wic ( I think they are 2 very good programs!). I was on medicaid when i was pregnant with my son. The insurance through my job I had would not cover my pregnancy because i became eligible for the insurance after i got pregnant. So, what choice did I have?? I didn't want to marry my boyfriend just because i got pregnant, not a good reason to marry. I love him dearly, and I will marry him someday. I just want to make sure it is for the right reasons. A lot people get married because they got pregnant, and then a few years down the line they end up divorced. Happens all the time. I have no problem paying more in taxes if that's money is going towards healthcare for a child!! It's not their fault their parents didn't have insurance at the time or for whatever reason had to go on medicaid. Remember medicaid, medicare, WIC are for children and the elderly. People who have to depend on someone to care for them.

I agree. I've been on food stamps, I've been on medicaid and had WIC too. I was a single mom with 2 kids! I'm not single now, I'm expecting my 3rd child in January, and I have a college degree. I applied for WIC because with 2 adolescent boys in the house and one on the way I can't keep milk in the fridge. The woman at the counter talked down to me so badly, that I wanted to slap her. I'd bet a $1000 that I have a higher education than she does, and I'll bet that she doesn't have any kids either. I just looked at her like she was the moron, and walked out with my appt card. If the person who interviews me is half as snooty as that b*tch was, then they'll get one hell of an earful. I hate judgemental people.

I'm not defending rude behavior at all, and I'm not a government employee either, but I think I have an idea as to why some of them exhibit rude behavior. When you deal with the public on the level that government employees do, .(DMV, Public Assistance, Courts, etc...) you see all types of people, and I'm venturing to guess that many of these people are rude themselves. I mean, the DMV is a nightmare! Eveyone has to get somewhere quick, and the employees get yelled at constantly by impatient people. So maybe the employee feels no need to be friendly, when they aren't treated that way in turn. I know each case is unique, but that is just my guess.

Government workers often don't treat their clients well because they have a monopoly on the service they provide. These government workers don't have to worry that their clients will go some other place and get better service.
They can mistreat you as much as they want, and you'll still come to them when you really need their help. And if you get upset so much that you don't come, then the government saves money and some bureaucrat gets a pat on the back from his superiors.
It's is a win-win situation for them.
The only thing you can do about it is complain to your elected representative in government. Even if you are poor, your vote counts just as much as that of any other citizen. And politicians do care about the votes, especially when elections are coming up.

I was on WIC for a while and never had a problem with anyone. But when I was younger and had my first son i had to get Medi-Cal health insurance and they do try to make you feel you are nothing and a burden to society. I don't have a problem telling them to shove it up their *** though :)
