I am moving into a new place soon with a roommate I've never met . . . what advice do you have for me?

It's part of a program run by Faith Homes. And it beats the homelessness I've been suffering through since my ex kicked me out!

Take the time/effort to get to know your roommates likes and dislikes. Set boundaries for you both to live by.

Make sure you each have your breathing space, and make the most of this new arrangement.

Make sure to keep up with your stuff vs. their stuff. Divide your chores, so no one does too much. Remember the Odd Couple.

More info after seeing your additional comments: Get involved with a church that you like, make some contacts that you can reach out to in time of need. If you have severed relationships with your family, try to mend them. You seem to have traveled down a hard road.

Find a job/career that you like, work yourself into financial independence. As my good friend once told me. Make hay while the sun shines. When you get older you may not have the energy or earning potential you do now.

Never rely on a man for your well being. I'm not saying don't fall in love and get married, but always be able to take care of yourself. Independence is important, for you and your future.

Make sure that you keep track of all your stuff. Try to hide stuff if you can. Try to lock up any CDs/DVDs if you can. Make some rules for the both of you. Suggest that no one's allowed in each other's room w/o knocking first. Try to get to know the other person tho. Maybe you'll find that they're trustworthy. Good luck !

be very careful!

always lock your room when you are out.

try to limit your "cash on hand" on a minimal amount , just keep what you need to the day basically. keep them in a safe place. it will be wiser to keep your cash in the bank and withdraw some amount when ever you need it.

be friendly but not too friendly. always help in cleaning the place.

last have a good time!
