We each own our own truths. The truths of each individual are valid. Your truth about God may not be the same as the truth of another. It doesn't mean one is correct and one is incorrect, they are simply different.
I don't think Atheist as a whole think Christians are stupid. The sauciness between the two groups flies back and forth pretty freely and equally from what I have observed.

I think all people can be intelligent about some things and foolish or stupid about other things.

I have a hard time with anyone who thinks they know "Truth" because of what they have read in the Bible. I've read the Bible and scholarly books about the Bible in a historical context, and I'm convinced that the Old Testament is just a collection of myths. The God of Abraham is really not all that different from Zeus. The New Testament is clearly more of a historical document than the Old Testament, but I think all of the claims for Christ's miracles are very weak.

My biggest problem is when Christians are so convinced that they know the "truth" that they become blind to the real advancement of knowledge. The Christians of 500 years ago persecuted one of the greatest scientists who ever lived because he was teaching that the earth revolves around the sun. He was right of course, but it took hundreds of years before Christians were willing to acknolwedge they were wrong. Today's Christians are refusing to believe the theory of Evolution, which has become the foundation for our modern understanding of Biology and Medicine. And this is all because the oldest and most clearly mythical story of the Old Testament is clearly not literally true if Evolution is true. Some Christians are willing to accept that the story of creation is Genesis is allegorical, and accept evolution. I think these Christians are behaving a lot more intelligently than the creationists.

First ask yourself why Christians think atheists stupid.

It's like this big circle of ignorance, defensiveness, self-righteousness, stubbornness--you name it. Now, I'm not talking about all Christians and atheists, just some of them.

The monotheistic world's view on the "truth" about God differs. A Christian's view is completely different from a Muslim's view, which is completely different from a Jew's view. There are different truths for different people. It takes all kinds, after all.

The truth you teach may not be the truth of an atheist. People can't go into the world assuming that EVERYTHING they believe in is right.

Why is it that (some) Christians think it's their mission to convert the world? Some people don't want to be converted; they're perfectly fine without God.

Why do (some) atheists think they have the right to put down one's entire belief system? To say that to base one's life on faith is delusional is quite closed-minded, and for a people who say that they're being "persecuted" by close-minded Christians, that's pretty hypocritical.

I personally think that people need to SHUT UP AND LISTEN before they attempt to judge or "teach" people of varying beliefs.

As a Christian, the truth about God is love. How can Christians (as a people) even THINK about teaching atheists about God when there's no love involved?? Instead of love, there's derision and hypocrisy. Some people preach the Word only to be like "Haha! Stupid atheists, stupid Jews, stupid everyone who doesn't believe in my way." People preach because they think that's a way to gain power over others. They preach the truth to brag about how THEIR way is right. And for me, there is no love in that. There is nothing Christian in that.

Whew...thanks. Sorry if I offended anybody. Just trying to get my point across.

Actually most atheists have family and friends that are Christian. Some of us are even married to Christians, myself included. Most don't have a problem with Christians in general. They have a problem when someone doesn't show respect for their beliefs, they have a problem when someone calls them names or puts them down based on their beliefs. They have a problem when someone insists they know the truth and then is rude to them because they don't agree. These are also things that go in reverse, most Christians I know have problems with atheists who behave this way as well. Other then that in general and everyday life most don't even care what the person next to them believes.

I don't believe in god, and I don't think Christians are stupid.

I WANT to believe, I WISH I could believe, it would make it so much EASIER then you don't have to feel bad for anything you do and you'll be "Forgiven" no matter what and then people don't automatically assume just because you don't believe in god you're a satanist... I don't believe in satan either!

... but every time I go to church I just sit and think "this is just like a big cult... how can they all think the same? What happens if after all these people die nothing happens?...

it would make me too sad. I guess I've been let down to much in my life to believe in something that may never happen.

Why would they want to here something about things they don't believe in. It is not just God it is all religions. some Christians like you always make it about yourselves. You wouldn't like it if someone who was Hindu came and told you the 'truth' because you don't believe in it. i'm christian and I have atheists friends and we don't think any belief is stupid.

there is an answer, yet its no longer an orthodox answer, and it calls for me to coach you tons of belongings you dont know. Doing that in this communicate board is difficult, yet i'll objective. a million. the surely unforgivable sin is alleged to be blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. in aspect of reality, what meaning, is someone who refuses the Holy Spirit. That surely is smart in case you surely know what the Holy Spirit can do for you. 2. all of us die and bypass to the Spirit Spheres. the utmost of those are authentic heavens, yet no longer the "Kingdom of God" that Jesus stated. God isn't cutting-edge in this spirit heavens, neither is Jesus, besides the very undeniable reality that he does visit. 3. the objective of Jesus coming the following replaced into to coach us the thanks to attain the eternal geographical areas, truly than languish contained in the non-eternal spirit heavens the position all of us finally end up with out any attempt, and regardless of what we trust or do not trust. 4. to attain the eternal realm, you may want to modify the composition of your soul. The soul you initiate with isn't eternal, neither is it divine. yet surely eternal and divine beings can stay contained in the dominion of God. The Spirit Heavens are basically yet over again/area length. 5. you modify your soul over a lengthy era of time, with the help of asking the Holy Spirit to convey the Divine Love of God, and slowly you'll change the soul. finally it will be more suitable sufficient so as that it would want to be fused with a fragment of God. for this reason besides the very undeniable reality that you take care of all of your personality and ideas, you're not from now on an analogous being anymore. 6. in case you refuse the present of the Holy Spirit, you may't keep on with this procedure, and also you may ceaselessly (possibly) be excluded from the dominion of God. Suffice it to assert, the Buddha has refused, and remains satisfied. Orthodox Christians will reject this, and they too may discover themselves excluded from the dinner party, except, submit-demise, they open their minds slightly. some do, some do not. maximum persons curiously do no longer, so there is various employer.

It's the "tell them the truth about God" part we have a problem with. Believe what you want, but don't shove it in my face, don't shove it down my child's throat in public school, don't try to legislate it or force it on me, don't try to require me to swear an oath to it just to serve on a jury or testify in court.

I don't think Christians like you are stupid, I think you're obsessive. I understand that it can be hard to cope with life, but really this obsessing about Jesus is just another way of avoiding dealing with reality.

I don't think they are stupid but this attitude: "especially when we tell them the truth about God" Is very condescending, patronizing, and annoying. You just assume that your beliefs are the only valid ones and insult people in a misguided effort to convert them to your religion.
