Because the Roman Empire executed anyone who refused to acknowledge it as factual ("God's word"). Which is really interesting since it was not available to be read by those being forced to accept it as accurate.
That practice was continued by subsequent European dictators, including English royalty.
People did not decide the bible was factual, they were forced to accept it under penalty of imprisonment or death.
Despite all the false claims regarding the accuracy of the bible, no credible evidence supports any of the bible stories. And, there are no prophecies of any kind in the bible. Prophecy is specific and cannot be "interpreted" hundreds of different ways, as is routinely done with "bible prophecy."

You obviously have no religious background. The Bible is not from God, it was written by apostles and those who experienced what happened. And as far as it being fiction, do some research before you start throwing out terms like that.

If you are inferring that the Bible is a work of fiction, then you have no idea what fiction means. The Bible is historical fact and much of it was inspired by God.

the bible is not from God, but is a book written by men about the life and teachings of Christ, God's son. It is about God but was not written from by him. In fact it is really a collection of writings from men. So the bible is like any other book written.

Because J.K. Rowling owns all rights to Harry Potter, and God doesn't have enough connections down here to try to buy it off of her.

I could say that you just answered your own question. You said the book is from G-d, so you must believe it, and that is why.
