He'll have a very sore throat for a couple of days. Have some soft cold foods, like ice cream, on hand. I had my tonsils out many years ago when I was 10. I've hardly been sick a day since!

It's going to hurt you a lot more than it hurts him. Hang in there mom!

When my son had his out i did nothing different he ate normal food with in 2 hours he was eating bread and drinking cold drinks and we never had a days problem with him. I gave him the pain meds that the Dr. gave for him and that was the end of the story. By the way he was 3 at the time.

my friends daughter just had this done last year, and it was done as an out patient surgery, and she got to go home after about 3 hours, and then she ate jello and pudding, and Popsicles that day, and soft food like mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese the next day, and then went from there. She was talking that same day.. Sore but talking.. Good Luck.. Oh yeah she was 5

Most likely he will not be able to talk for a while. He will also only be able to eat very very soft foods... like jello, ice cream, and smoothies. In a week or two he should start to be talking again and eating a bit more normal.

Grumpy!!
The best thing to do is make sure that you have his favorite ice cream, no nuts or chips in it, jello, pudding. No acidy juices.
Now days it is next to nothing, be sure to rent some movies to keep him sort of still for a while when you get him home.
