how do i start a conversation with a girl who ive tried talking to before but chickened out?

Ok first off that was pretty bold to ask her out the first time when you've barely talked to her. Almost too sudden so it might have came off as creepy and awkward. Following that after she said it was fine, you kept on trying to get in touch with her but she clearly did not wish to at that time. Yes she did say that it was all cool but that doesn't mean that you may keep pressuring her to respond to your messages. I believe that it is best that you don't go hunting down for her number because it might put her in a position that becomes uncomfortable for her and don't ask you're friend to get it for you. The ball is on her court now so that means you can't control nor dictate what she decides to do with your current situation. If you keep asking her how her day is, what are her summer plans, what her number is, etc. she might find you as impatient and nagging and will be more unwilling to keep in touch with you. In short, I think you shouldn't get your head so wrapped up in this, have patients, do not try to get in contact with her (unless she begins the conversation), wait until the new school year to see what happens (but don't keep asking and nagging her about her life, the weather, the whys, etc.), and enjoy your summer.
