Ah, Civil Service. A great idea, however, we are not a Socialist society. Therefore, we would never be able to pass such a law.

I am moving to the USA on a fiance visa soon. Only after 2 yrs allowed to leave the USA to visit my family. I believe it's a good thing to adapt to the culture you're moving too, without loosing your identity.
But if your own cultural behavior are disturbing to the country you're moving to I believe to that you need to learn to adapt and as well start taking language class before you start coming over, so you don't isolate and are able to make yourself clear living there. if you become a US citizen you have to do an exam and learn about US history and do the pledge, before actually becoming on. In my case, my fiance already being a born US citizen, I'm only allowed to apply for that after 3 yrs. Serving the military is something else, although in your oath you even have swear to become loyal yo your new home country. And I think that's important.
Although, which I hope never happens, when our both countries get in conflict and still having family in your born country, makes the decision harder at that particular time, I think.

Bah, that's asinine. You have to be an American citizen to join the military, and you want foreigners to be forced to join? Also, you can't force people to respect anyone else, just for a job. Also, when someone becomes an American citizen they do give up their loyalty and pledge allegiance to the USA. You're expecting too much of people who just want to come here to be with their husband, make a better life for themselves, or get a proper education. We should be happy to spread the wealth and services we take for granted. It can only make the world a better place for everyone. Although illegal immigrants need to die.

Ok so what happened to everyone talking about the U.S being a great melting pot of cultures.See this is where it gets confusing, some anti illegals claim they want the illegals to enter the country legally and assimilate into the culture as well as denounce loyalty to their old country. While others claim its okay to still keep some or your culture just also learn english and respect the country you are in.So wich is it?And btw many immigrants already joined the military in order to gain their citizenship, while many americans have opted to go AWOL.

It's forcing people to do something they might not be cut out for. Plus, the US doesn't have a problem with millitary enrollment, in fact every branch of the millitary is no longer taking in new recruits this year because they have a huge back-up list. If you sign up now, they'll give you a basic training date for next spring.
I don't see how literally punishing people who come to the US legally and do everything right is going to fix anything. It's not the legal immigrants that refuse to intergrate you know... they come to the US knowing they will have to intergrate. Most illegals come in to work, they don't want to live here, they just want to have the money that they can get here to send it back to their families, they refuse to intergrate because they don't come here to immigrate like legal immigrants do, they come here to get a better life, legal immigrants come with the idea of integrating and being part of a new nation, illegals only come to benefit from things they don't have, and hence refuse to intergrate. Their children do intergrate though because of cultural interactions from a young age...

You r still a very smart guy! lol I agree with you, however, this is precisely the problem. Immigrants...legal and illegal...want to reside here and take advantage of the 'perks' but have no intention of Americanizing their selves. I by no means want any individual to give up there culture BUT they have to respect ours by conforming...and yes, I consider your above 4 points to be a perfect example of how they can conform. My number 5 would be that they have to remember when they come here they are no longer living in a 3rd world country. For example: Do not take all of the screens out of your windows and leave your front door hanging open...please (and this is a true story, I've seen it) do not have all your grass on your front lawn practically dug out so it leaves a dirt pit in the front...please control your trash. It is not cool to put your trash on the sidewalks and gutters. It is also not cool to pile 20 black trash bags on the corner of your block and expect it to be hauled away. In America you actually have to pay for trash hauling.
Yes, all very good ideas. :)

I think only young people should be required to learn English, old folks who are not going to work here might not need it.
I think pledging alleigance to the US is important, not necessarily giving up loyalty to wherever they are from.
Respecting the citizens is important, at least in not commiting violent crimes.
I think that young and healthy immigrants should join the military if they want to.

If I didn't think this was an honest post, I would call you some rather nasty names. And I am still debating this, since you say you have 4 years prior service.
Here's why. Citizens of our "territories" (Puerto Rico) are required to serve 7 years. ( to bypass other requirements only) And you are speaking of only requiring 2 for people not from our country or it's territories.
Why would we make it easier for others, but not our own?

I don't know as I would trust them until they have become sworn citizens.... given the PC attitude prevalent in the USA nowadays.
Once they have become legal citizens.. military service should be required. I think it should be required of all able bodied, mentally and physically, American citizens.... no ifs, no ands, no buts, at least 2 years active duty.

i think thats a good idea. but i would make two amendments.
#1 - it doesn't necessarily have to be military service. it could be service to society as a whole, such as working for americorps, habitat for humanity, etc.
#2 - it applies to US citizens as well. one or two years spent actually working to make their communities a better place instead of only thinking about themselves would teach the populace good skills and would help to develop a valuable sense of community as well.
ALSO: saulg21 makes a good point. a lot of immigrants ALREADY serve in the military. its a popular way of obtaining citizenship.

I don't know about that dorkhead but any foriegn national can file for citizenship after one day of active service already.
While that's dumb, I do also know that the draft they keep kicking around to bring back will also not consider status.
All of you of serving age would be drafted.
In my opinion, just before Bush attacks Iran.
