What are the benefits of thoughs single mono fork shock things as compared to a standard front fork suspension. Its a confusing question but I think you know what I mean.

I assume you are talking about Cannondale's Lefty Fork, compared with all other suspension forks.

The benefits include potentially lower weight (some of the ultra lightweight racing suspension forks probably weigh less), you don't have to remove your wheel to fix a flat. There might be others, check out what Cannondale has to say about them, I am sure they have their reasons for them.

The negatives: you can't use a lot of roof racks--won't fit any with a fork mount. It is propietary technology which means that it will likely be more expensive to fix if you ever need to. You also need a special headset and hub to fit the fork. If you have a bike with a lefty fork, you will always have to use a lefty fork because the head tube is bigger.

That is what comes to mind off the top of my head.

The lefty is a nice fork. Theorically, it's a very stiff fork (it means that it tracks very well on rocky terrain), and smooth. Probably lower weight? I'm not sure about it.

But, it's expensive and not that easy to put on a standard bike. If you're looking at a Cannondale bike, theyre fine, but if you're planning to upgrade your bike, it's not worth it.

There proven they work but i still can't get past the idea of seeing half a fork when i look down doesn't do much for my confidence. My friend rides on them and swears by them .....mind you he likes cannondale too so how can you trust a guy that likes a bike that would be better suited as a boat anchor.

I've never ridden a bike with a lefty...but it does seem like it would be something to get used to. I would go with checking out a mountain bike website that provides equipment reviews. Cannodale puts out some pretty good stuff, but it's always best to get an external opinion on what's good.
Here are a few non-evaluated advantages
- Hey it looks cool and chics dig it -
- It supports the left-handed community...it's about time -
- Who needs two legs anyway...I'm better than that -
- Unique? Watch your mouth.... -
Anyhoo...I hope you find the real answers, until then...I'm out!
