Sara, don't take it literally, Its just a myth like many others. Supposedly Cain was the father of the black race; the mark of Cain was a black skin. Nonsense. The "mark" did not stop others from trying to annihilate them down thru the years, however. Shows one can pick and choose just what to believe in the "good" book. The Bible has been used for eons as a rationale for slavery and for keeping women "in their place." Sorry if you choose to buy into it.

to prevent vigilanteism, revenge agaisnt killing his brother

there is no description of the mark of Cain and furthermore no reason to believe is was hereditary and should not be ethnically associated as there is no Biblical warrent for that

and pssst!! i wonder if it was a reminder for Cain to of what he did to Abel so that he would live more repentant life and turn to God... the whole issue was of jealosy beause God favored Abel's sacrifice over Cain's, Abel being a righteous man in God's sight

i'm uncertain the style you get up with that. There incredibly isn't any connection indoors the bible to coach that the mark for Cain replace into truthfully the mark of the Beast. thinking the mark for Cain replace into so as that persons does not kill him.

As punishment for murdering his brother Abel. He set the mark upon him so that others would know who he was. God did not want him killed but instead wanted him to live as a pariah.

To protect Cain from certain death for killing his brother. It was to be a punishment that he would live in constant fear for what he did and have to work that much harder for his act.
