There have been experiments with methane-powered fuel cells, but I have not heard anything about them recently -- they are still very much a laboratory item. I would hope that these could be developed for commercial use, as methane has huge advantages over hydrogen with respect to powering vehicles: it's cheap (just dig a well), it requires minimal processing, a distribution network is already in place, and it has a much higher energy density than does hydrogen, as well as being a lot easier to handle.

Methanol fuel cells are convenient to use because methanol is a liquid.

water dosent polute so i'd say water for hydro cars is the way to go
