I have gotten the upright kind that is NOT what I want. I want more or less a spot cleaner. What have you used that was successful on dark dog diarrhea?

Bissel's litte green carpet cleaning machine... it's like $45 at Wal-Mart these days... pick up some of their enzyme cleaner concentrate (in the pet section, pink container...) and mix it about 1/10 with the water... it works great, and you can buy regular cleaner for other stains (but the enzyme cleaners work pretty good on most stains, not just pet stains...)
Make sure to get the stuff in the pet section sold as a refill for spray bottles, not the Pet Stain Steamer stuff, it's not nearly as good.

Wee wee stain and odor remover. By Four Paws. Petsmart carries it. You don't want to use a cleaning solution that has ammonia in it. (It might make a dog wanna go there.)
