If the child continually breaks into your home, either through an open window, gate, or the front door? Can you call the cops to get them involved via the parents since the parent will not adequately halt the behavior? I have spoken to both parents at length. They assure me they will watch him better. It happens again and again. Now this is the 17th time, and I am quite fed up. This time, I was taking a shower and nearly lost my mind when I saw someone in the house. I almost went for a gun until I realized it was their kid. What else can we do? I've really had it. I don't keep my doors locked during the days (especially weekends) because my son goes back and forth to his buddies house across the street, and I don't aim to lock him out.

Judy, you crazy as hell. My weapons aren't going ANYWHERE. I have the right to have my windows open and my door unlocked without being troubled by anyone uninvited.

You can call them, don't dial 911, that would get them cranky... :)call the non emergency number and tell them what's going on, sometimes a knock at the door by the authorities will do the trick. (Because that little guy might be going into other people's homes as well, and you would feel awful if someone else wasn't as nice about it as you've been. ) Unsupervised kids have other stuff going on at home that isn't as obvious, you're doing him a favor, trust me.

Meantime, ya gotta lock the doors and give your kid a key. Know why? He's an accident waiting to happen. Make sure it doesn't happen in your house! Your son will be fine unlocking the door for a while.

This is clearly a case of child neglect and endangerment , if that kid is INSIDE your house, his parent couldn't possibly know where he is. If this kind of thing keeps up, they could find that child in out-of-home placement. Call the child protective services and meanwhile, why not lock the house and give your kid a key until things calm down with the stray toddler?

I would definitely call the police. For these adults to allow their child to run around and act like a crazy fool should be taught right from wrong. This kid's parents need to teach him boundaries, they need to discipline him or the state will find someone who cares more for raising and teaching this child his place. Parenting in the key component to raising a child that will make a great citizen one day. I really think you should get someone involved, these parents are allowing this child to develop horrible habits that are going to enable him in the future.

Good Luck!!

I would keep the kid there and call child protective services and inform them that a 3 year old is roaming the streets unsupervised.

Yes you can.The police will likely get the local child welfare authorities involved since they seem to have a hard time supervising their child. This is a dangerous situation for the child as well. The next gun owner might not realize that he is just a kid with idiots for parents.

Yes in deed, call the cops, and while you are at it, call child services. A 3 year old should not just be running around the neighbourhood! If he keeps going into your house, and he gets hurt, or he finds and eats meds, YOU are at fault, So, call the authorities, andlet them know you nearly shot him. And might I suggest you get rid of the gun before someone DOES get hurt with it.

yes, call, as a caseworker i am telling you, the answer is to call 911, you bet!!

the parents are really at fault, you're calling on the parents, not the kid. the kid is not getting the care he is needing, and this is one sign of neglect,
absolutly, call.
document everything, everything. document. call 911

Just call and then tell them what's going on. If the cops are allowed to do anything they'll come.

Oh come on, this is lame. Keep the doors locked, give your son a key, and contact an attorney. This is a no brainer if ever there was one!
