If you are thinking of designing clothes, then AutoCAD is the last program you want! ACAD is for engineers designing machines, or architects designing buildings...
Any 3D visual would do, or even PhotoShop, if you use a "tablet and pen". So you use it as if you were pencil-ling on paper.

I would suggest you 3d Studio Max 8. Its great for fashion designing.

I took a CADD course in my school last year and we used the most advanced piece of software called AutoCad
