Why doe "true believers" find atheists so threatening? Why are they threatened by the fact there are happy, normal, successful, MORAL, and positive people out there who don't believe in their god? Why do they get so defensive when we try to explain why we are not believers?

Why do atheists have lower divorce rates than mutually religious couples?
Why do countries with a greater percentage of non-believers have a lower murder rate?

If religious people are not threatened by our beliefs, then why do they argue so vehemently when we explain what we believe in?

Because they can't believe that someone is happy, normal, successful, moral and positive without having to do it for a higher power. They need a reason to do all these things whereas we don't.

Your question shows YOUR double standard. Atheists get defensive when Christians explain THEIR beliefs just as much as Christians get defensive. I see it on here all the time. Rather than acknowledge a person's right to believe in a higher power and treat that person with respect for having made up his/her mind, many atheists make fun and ridicule the person. They refuse to listen to the other side and brush the person off as being ignorant and uneducated. It's pretty unfair considering that's what they claim Christians do. BOTH sides have work to do in order to have more civilized and insightful conversations about religious beliefs, especially on Answers. I for one am not threatened by atheists. I have no problem having intelligent conversations with them, so long as they're OPEN to MY intelligent contribution...because I do have one. :)

I am not threatened by non-believers, Atheists, or any other religion.
Most of the posts by supposed Atheists are not posted by Athiests at all, because they lack the desire to be respectful.
As there are some Believers who act disrespectful of non-believers.
But to answer your question as best as I can, If anyone feels threatened by others questioning their faith (in a resectful way mind you) then they are not that firm in their beliefs.
Personally, I welcome questions regarding my beliefs, as the cnstant search for answers only helps one grow.
My opinion only, as yours may differ.

Those of The True Christian Faith do not feel threatend, personaly, by atheists. But what they teach is threatening to all of mankind. Because it will keep so many from knowing The Way, The Truth, and The Life. and from coming to God in The Way He prosccribes and recieving His free gift of Salvation.

I can consider myself a true believer and I do not find atheist threathening at all. I do not get defensive. Jesus respects your choice, that is free will all about. I am OK with your decision, I just hope you understand what you are up against.
Have a nice life! I will too.
PS:What comes to divorces...luckily it is not about that with our salvation. We get saved only by the grace and mercy of God...not that we desreve it, but we accept it.

you only believe you're threathened because you allow yourself to be suck into their reasons. i'm a catholic, i accept people's belief, whichever they indulge their faith into. i respect their views and hold my faith and belief inside me. no one can distract me otherwise, and i don't go around boasting of it nor insisting on people following my faith. i practice mine and respect other's people's faith. those whom you claim "christians" threathening your ideals are just those who try to convince themselves that they are doing god's work when in fact their practice of what they teach isn't observe. bro, i believe that man has their own choice. and each must respect and observe humility in acknowledging other's principle and ideals. and i am with you in abhoring those christians who go around lecturing yet not truly absorbing the true message encryted in the bible nor practicing it's message. the 8 beatitudes, the 10 commandments, the 7 sacraments, the 2 greatest commandment, these messages have different interpretations and these messages denotes respect of man's choice...

I choose NOT to practice any religion and Im not against any neither. However there are so many bible thumpers that come into here trying to force their religions upon others.
Im with you there if they are strong in their faith why do they feel the need to push their views onto others?
For those that dont believe that try checking out how many times you see people trying to object to people who dont believe in the same religion they do. How many times do people reply to peoples questions with things like " You need to pay to God for forgiveness" or " I feel sorry for you, you need God in your life" ? I see it all the time in here.

Because atheism will spread. We're just as afraid of evangelism, but to them they see the end. Christianity will be replaced when a better, more gratifying religion is created, but it won't be in this lifetime.

I don't know where this myth comes from. I am not the least bit threatened by people who believe God doesn't exist.
