Why do you feel the need to judge? As long as dogs are well cared for and not irresponsibly bred then why do you care?
Both of my dogs are from rescue. They are pure bred, but w/o papers, which is fine because they're not going to be bred. Just because someone doesn't own a mutt doesn't mean they believe in irresponsibly breeding.
I have owned mutts as well, but I prefer purebreds, or a mix of two identifiable breeds, because you can more accurately predict their personality. I have always had, and always will have German Shepherds, I love their personalities. They fit me and my lifestyle very well. If I were to go to the pound and pick up a fluffy cute mutt, I wouldn't have a clue about what combo of breeds it was and therefore what it's personality was like. If it was a terrier mix, the high energy, yappy, stubborness wouldn't be a fit for my lifestyle. I also prefer to get a puppy or young dog, so they will grow up accepting my cats. They often aren't available at animal control.
Some rescue groups at least where I'm at have unreasonable requirements to adopt. I applied to adopt a Neapolitan Mastiff. To adopt a puppy younger than 6 months I couldn't be out of the house for more than two hours a day! To adopt any dog I couldn't be gone for more than nine hours a day. Hello....I work and have a life! Oh and the adoption fee was $800-$1000!!
How is my making an informed decision about my pets selfish or low class?

There is nothing wrong with buying a dog if that is what you choose to do. What you are saying is why have a child and there are so many children that need a home. No one should feel guilty for buying a particular dog that they want. If you go to the pound and find what you want - great! But by no means is it low class to buy a dog, you have no idea if the person wants to show it, breed it or what interests they may have.

At the present time there are nine dogs at my house who have earned their CH. Do you know of very many dogs in shelters that AKC will even allow in a show ring????
It's called different strokes, some people have pets and nothing more, others Field Trial their dogs, (both parents of the dog in my avatar are Canadian National Amateur Field Trial Champions) some Show their dogs, some are Service dogs, Rescue dogs, Hunting dogs and on and on. Don't lump every one with a dog in the same box as yourself.

What's wrong with people getting what they want? What happens to the purebred dogs when nobody buys them? I agree with you that shelter animals should be sent to good homes, but you can't deny someone what they want; especially when they will give it a good home!

Why don't you take out your anger on the people who are to lazy or stupid to manage their animals and make more cross breed puppies? Instead you are angry with people like me for not cleaning up the mess created by idiots?
I show and field trial my dogs, I COULD NOT do what I enjoy doing with a mutt from a shelter. WHY is this selfish? *I* didn't create the problem. *I* don't let my dogs roam free and breed on the street.
Beth - PBs are not "defective". A WELL BRED purebred is going to be the healthiest dog you can buy. Of course, a PB from a crappy breeder is a tossup. Educate yourself.

yes I am on the waiting list for a small dog who is used to cats.
they are particular who they home dogs too. many are traumatised, have issues or have health problems.I had an elderly dog for many years, I dont want to go through that stage again for a while. it's not that easy with the Blue Cross and the RSPCA. They are very very particular.
having a pure bred is not selfish or 'low class' as you put it. people know the characteristics of their breed and what sort of personality it will have - a hint of jealousy maybe?

i have never had a purebred dog.
over my lifetime so far, one i found wandering on the streets and three i adopted from a shelter.
i think shelter dogs are more loving. i think they know where they were and the situation they were in and appreciate you more.
as to behavior, i put one of my shelter dogs through training at PetSmart and received amazing results. i plan to do it again with more advanced training. :)

Wiping the tears from my eyes i be attentive to what u are asserting is actual, I purely desire that i ought to rescue each animal it is taken to the safeguard yet regrettably i won't. I even have observed countless pets in the years that have been waiting to be placed to sleep and for some reason i picked the older ones so as that they might stay out the remainder of their life. I actually have a pair canines i rescued that have been so old they simply lived approximately 6 months longer, yet that became into six months longer that they could be happy and taken care of. The older ones by no skill have of project as no person ever needs to undertake an old canines that could die on them in an afternoon or 2, yet it is my preferance as i provide them an prolonged time to stay as a substitute of being placed down in the way u clarify. Alot of human beings have faith that those animals don't be attentive to what's approximately to take place to them and that they supposeably don't be attentive to what is going on, i be attentive to that's the incorrect thought as they do be attentive to and it is so unhappy it has to take place. human beings do no longer opt to have faith those animals get rendered into their pets nutrition and their loving puppy is ingesting yet another fido, yet regrettably it is actual additionally. I do desire that there became right into a differant approach of the undesirable pets, yet there is no longer. I Thank u for attempting to get out a message, yet regrettably u could have those which will argue the factor and say u don't be attentive to what u are conversing approximately.

The amount of dogs getting killed at shelters is not because of those of us who prefer purebreds. It's totally because of the amount of people who ignorantly breed their mutts and keep on and keep on and keep on breeding them! Some people prefer to have dogs they can show, or put into obedience competition, or whatever else they may be interested in.

i agree with you totally. if u want a dog to love and be a companion then the dog home is the place to go, rehome a poor animal who's no longer wanted. when the time is right for me to get a dog im planning on going to a rehoming shelter to get a dog. cant stand the thought of poor animals waiting all alone to be rehomed. i know when the time comes it will be hard cas will want to take them all home..remember looking with my parents when they considered it. was gut wrenching.
