Methadone is what doctors use to treat heroin addicts so it is definitely not worse, it is better. It is given as a pill so it contains no impurities and is not injected so you avoid abcesses, infections, AIDS, hepatitis. It prevents the symptoms of withdrawal from heroin addiction that are so uncomfortable like vomiting, sweating, agitation, etc. It is given in a controlled dose so if taken properly you won't overdose and die. You remain mentally and physically functional while taking it. And it can be tapered down over time so that you come off it gradually to avoid withdrawal. Its definitely better.

I think methadone treatment is still an addiction just in smaller doses similiar to a nicotine patch. As hard as it may be, cutting it cold turkey is best. I know a guy who went to rehab for his addiction and has been on methadone for 2+ years and falls asleep behind the wheel of his car due to the fact that he can't sleep well at night..among other problems due to methadone. He can function in society but is still polluting body and thus is not healthy. He has lost all of his teeth..etc etc You also risk the patient overdosing as well as other people..guy in my High School died from a methadone overdose.

To me it is. To some people its better because its consistent, meaning you'll get your doses every day and not have to scounge for drug money and call your dealer, etc. to get the heroin. The drug itself, though, is so similar, that I think you could detox yourself with heroin the same way as methadone...methadone is just the legal, medical way of doing it.

Heroin is bad, but honest, I know an elderly couple who are both addicted to methadone, so either their doctor isn't responsible or they are really addicted. I wouldn't want it.

YES!!!! I'd rather be on/come down from H than from methadone again. It was the worst time in my life. But on a positive note, it's been almost 7 years since I've touched either. Woo-hoo!!
