I don't understand why the terminology we use has to keep changing all the time. Seems like you just get used to something being called one thing, and then somebody's calling it something else. It's frustrating!

It's worse than you think. Modelling agencies are now only interested in men with 8 packs!

As for the name change, I think you can blame beer companies! In order to get even more advertising power for their money I propose that they renamed the "washboard stomach" the "6 pack" so we would think of having a beer every time we heard it!

Don't feel bad, just keep living. Your six pack will soon turn into a two or three liter.

To answer your question, it is the times that we live in. How many people know what a washboard is? I wish more did.

Well the younger generations have never seen, much less used a washboard. They are however, bombarded by beer commercials. Imagine a poll of children who were asked what a washboard is... then ask them what a six pack is.Which would they think is more "cool"?

1979. The beer wars raged. GrandMa said hey, Christopher...you got six muscles on that washboard tummy. "Yeah, grandma...I call it a six pack." "Goin' out with Gina tonight. Hope she digs a "SixPack" and a SixPack." "Do you want me to bring in more firewood?" No. Just you two be carefull. I aint ready to feed another generation. "Yes, maam, we're set on September and I'm going to race against the county champ to prove my love." Well boy, you just remember 6 pack or no 6 pack you best take your vitamins and watch how much you party. "Yes, maam."

Probably because the technology changed, you cant say "washing machine abs", and i guess a six pack is much more appealing. Although i dont see why something that causes a beer gut is used to discribe sexy abs.

I have wondered that myself, and don't get why they use the term 6 pack anyway. 6 pack of what? Terms for lots of things change with the times, its just the way it is. I remember when the word "gay" meant happy, jovial, as in gay old time ....now its used to denote sexual orientation. I can't figure out why that word is used either.

When the washing machine was invented and beer started to come in cans. What a sad day that was!

It's just a fad. Language evolves and always has and always will.

Otherwise we'd all still be speaking Aramaic as they did in biblical times.
