1. Write down ANYTHING that the teacher writes. If she takes the time to put it on the board it must be important!

2. Underline in a different color anything that she stresses.

3. Skip a few lines between things. Often the teacher will loop back and mention something that should be added. This way you have room to do that. Also, on the next day if she recaps what she has said you may find that you missed an important concept.

4. If it is going too fast at least write down the new words or vocabulary. You can always look it up later and add it if you need to.

5. I use arrows and colors to help link things.

6. Instead of absent mindedly doodling make your doodles work for you. Trace over a title or an important term to make it bold face. Underline words that she seems to mention more than once. Draw bubbles around key themes.

7. Write quickly but leave out words that are not important. You do not have to write things like the, and, etc. I abbreviate a lot. It helps.

try to read on what the teacher will talk about beforehand, so when the teacher speaks, you quickly take notes of the things that you have not read, and things you don't understand, so you can ask the teacher afterwards. You have to be able to write and listen at the same time. Practise writing without looking at home, it helps. If you don't think you are quick enough, get a recorder.

Sometimes teachers speak very quickly and give a great deal of information, but not all the information is necessary. Try to listen to the imporant facts and write one or two words thayt will trigger your memory when you study your notes. If you are visual pictures will help. In fact to get your right brain and left brain working together, which is the best memory and study strategy, take a pice of paper and fold it in half. On the left side draw a picture of the key word or topic she is talking about and on the right side write one or two imporant woprds, or a sentence. When you reveiw your notes you will remember the lecture very easily and you will be able to answer many questions in the text or write an essay.

I never have done that because while taking notes you miss what's being said.
Also, I found that a former friend of mine who actually got a PhD, did this and promptly forgot what had been said and would repeat questions he had already received answers to 30 minutes before.
That's when I realized that listening and remembering is a vastly superior method. You may want to record it as well, so you can easily revisit the lecture.

well.. what i do.. is just to use a little amount of words.. and for others.. symbols instead of words.. to limit the time in taking down notes.. don't write the common words anymore.. like and, then, so, to, high, low.. use arrows.. somehow.. make a diagram.. or even a simple illustration that would somehow sum up everything the teacher says.. usually though.. i do advance reading.. make my notes.. and in class.. i just listen to her..

write the main points but not evert word the teach says. Also, read the material before class so you will know what is going to be discussed, and this wil point to anything you might not understand or have questions about. It also helps to record it so you can go back and listen again.
