Super sizes with everything now - Kids just play with their video games more than ever - quite different when we were young.

Well, look around you..it's really down to the fact that people make money by making "convenient" products. It's pretty difficult to go around the grocery store and find things that god made. Everything else has been processed and things have been added.. Your body is made to be healthy off of natural things and that isn't really how people get their food today.
Easy mac and a coke isn't a very healthy meal...get what I mean? Also, look at technology..everything is made to save time and energy which is CONVENIENT, but it isn't necesarily healthy for us. Cars and everything.
IF we were to go back to our roots and live the way people did before McDonalds was invented and everything else like it obesity wouldn't be nearly as prevalent. That's all there is to it.
Have a good one.

I'm English and when I went to America, the portion sizes of food were insane!! Instead of having normal bowl of cereal with milk and maybe a banana for breakfast, I was given like all these muffins, pancakes and waffles. I wasnt complaining, I like that stuff, but some people seem to eat nothing but that kinda food.

Because of what we are doing now. LOL! But seriously....Americans are more sedentary than ever before. Computers, Games and TV! We drive everywhere-We don't walk hardly anywhere unless you live in a large city. We are a drive-thru society. You don't even have to get out of your car to get a RX at the drugstore. We eat like crap and exercise very little. The pace of our life has increased making stress more of a problem. We all know stress contributes to overeating and weight gain. Unless we change we will continue to look and feel like crap!

The body has evolved over thousands of years to try to retain as much energy (fat) as possible. Previously the people that were best able to retain fat had a better chance of survival. Only in the last few hundred years has there been an overabundance of food for some people.

Consequences of human nature and abundance of food. I think people and animals are biologically set to eat as much as possible for times when food is not abundant. You never know when you'll need to be a contestant on "survivor". Obesity is a problem in other countries as well - but the US is the leader.

because we have roads that have no sholders for people to bike or walk we shut down our rec centers the bike trails we have are few and far in between and when depression kicks in and when we try to have a garden for therapy the township people force us to cut it down there is a big bike trail along the highway near were i live and all the bridges are out and it has been shut down for a long time there is intersections only for cars theres no pedestrian bridges and even though were dependant on forgien energy our towns people would rather post signs all over the city saying no biking no roller blades no skateboards and if your on one you can be shure your gonna git pulled over with a threat of going to jail and my friends you wonder why we continue to breed fat people because all the trails are isolated theres not a monster trail a green pathway were you can camp that connects the whole usa most of its structured for gass guzzlers and if your an old person a handicapped person or some one with a disability or a young child you have to bunny hop the curbs all the way were you need to go and im a somewhat fit person and i find it excruciating and for some its to hard to take that first step cause there to worried what others will think they dont want to wear there bathing suit they would rather make excuses and think there to far gone and would rather give up on themselfs and not git out and try to make new friends cause it might be just to darn hard for them cause maybee they have surrounded themself with mean people maybee they were molested and being fat keeps others away from them who knows do you think it might have something to do with gitting in the car when they could just walk down the road heck ive seen obese people wearing next to nothing sometimes cause they just dont care but sit with someone whos obese and watch what they do and it aint hard to figure out how or why they got that way because every one wants to do stuff the easy way they would rather use something mechanized than the old way they have a lot of muscle in the mouth parts but not in the doing part

We are a society that lives within an illusion of scarcity. We think in terms of scarcity of money and time.
We think we need as much for our money as possible, so wasting food seems like a waste of money, or alternatively, getting more food for your money seems like you are actually saving money!
We think that we have so little time that every second counts. Fast food, which we wait in line for either in-store or in a drive-thru takes at least as much time to prepare as it would for us to prepare a simple meal at home where we can control what we are consuming. It "seems" like so much less time to have someone else make it for us, but that is not the case in reality, and then you end up with no true idea of what you are actually putting in your body. It seems like we are saving time by opening a bag of chips instead of getting a healthy snack, but it takes no longer to open up a bag of baby carrots.
When this mindset of scarcity becomes a way of life, we get fatter. Simple as that.

Because people have become accustomed to doing nothing but push pencils, SIT at the computer,SIT in front of the idiot box(tv), eating junk food and just being lazy. I don't understand why we have allowed ourselves and our families to deteriorate like this.

because all any one can or have time to do is work and go home. It's the lack of activity and doing the same thing day after day satisfying the corporate machine.
