When I was at school in England jewelry was forbidden, except for the emblem of religion. So we all became very religious. The Roman Catholics wore crucifixes and the Anglicans wore plain crosses. It had nothing to do with religion, we just wanted to wear a chain round our neck. These pendants were certainly not immodest and had nothing to do with pride.
I now wear the double pointed sword of Ali on a chain around my neck. Not from pride and most of the time it is hidden. But as an Alevi (not a Shia Muslim) I can take comfort from it in times of stress, just as Catholic Christians will grasp their crucifix.
Immodesty and pride just doesn't come into it. But at the end of the day, yes, it has something to do with stand up and be counted. Not pride, but not being ashamed - not the same thing.

Hardly immodest and why would that make one proud. I do wear a small crucifix. It keeps me humble reminding me the price paid so that I might live.

Depends on the jewellry and how it is being displayed. A chunky gold rope chain with a diamond studded cross that hangs to your navel would be a tad ostentatious. A small cross on a small chain under clothing would be a different issue I feel.

Wearing a cross or a crucifix is an individuals way of expressing their personal beliefs. I don't believe it is anything negative. Just self expression. That is still allowed in this country isn't it?

I wear a small cross on a chain round my neck, and I have a tattoo of a cross - it just represents what I believe and reminds me of the sacrifice that Jesus made for me. It demonstrates the opposite of pride - it says that we are all sinners and could never be good enough for God if Jesus hadn't died for us on the cross - but, because he did, there is hope for anyone.

it will amuse you to know that the word translated to cross or crucifix was stau'ros. the word actually refers to a stake, pole or tree. not two pieces of wood crossed.
also, idolatory is listed with murder, adultary etc as a work of the flesh, not a fruitage of the spirit. so not only are most christians commiting idolatory by wearing and glorifying the cross, they are worshipping the wrong weapon used to kill jesus.

yeah sure
likewise for muslims donning head veil(tudung), arabic robe
buddhist with their yellow robes
jews with their so called head cap
and many others
they're all proud to belong to somekind of groups
thus discriminating/labelling from the rest of mankind
the same too for Man U ,chelsea fans...etc
think there's nothing wrong with that as long they don't go to the extremes or get fanatically obsessed to hurt others

Just think about wearing the cross, if Christ had been killed on an electric chair would you hang one of them around your neck?? Being a Christian is rejoicing in the resurrection not dwelling on His death is it not??

I started wearing my crucifix when I was coming out of sever depression. I thought of it as my 'reminder' that Jesus died for me, we're all a bunch of sinners and we, as people get hurt because of that... this was over 5 years ago.
Today it still reminds me that we're a bunch of sinners. It helps me exercise patience and ask myself WWJD (what would Jesus do?). It also offers hope for those who see it and want to be reminded that Jesus is there for them too - all they need to is ask.

yes you are being proud, but you are being proud of the fact that you are a Christian, and of the fact that Jesus has transformed your life, and that your life now has a meaning and a purpose.
That's something I'd want to be proud of
