why can't I find one? Why on earth are they continuing to do this barbaric practice? Spaniels have such beautiful tails.

The 'hunt' arguement doesnt work here. This is Britain. Who the hell hunts?!

Hi Mishy,

Your best bet is to check out the litters of Cockers on the Anti-Docking Alliance website here: http://www.anti-dockingalliance.co.uk . If there are no litters in your area then email them and ask for a list of Cocker breeders.

Please be aware that alot of puppyfarmers do not dock because of the extra cost involved so make sure that the breeder that you buy from is reputable. Make sure that the breeder that you buy off of also carries out all the relevant genetic tests for Cockers (in my opinion this is far more important than being undocked) Cockers should be hip-scored, eye-tested (including gonioscopy) and DNA tested for PRA prior to breeding.

Spaniels do have lovely tails, but some are very weak and are prone to splitting at the tip, it's maybe an idea to discuss this with the breeder so as to avoid this happening (a split tail is incredibly difficult to mend). I am sure the anti-docking alliance will be able to give you plenty of help. Good Luck

Mishy, I have just checked the Kennel Club website and there are a number of tailed litters advertised there. http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/ Click on Dog Register, then Puppy Sales List and search for Spaniels (Cocker).

Agreed. All I can say is keep phoning around the breeders and keep asking (taking care of course to make sure that the dogs are given all the necessary check etc.) whether they dock the puppies' tails.

If you find one that does not dock, great - problem solved.

To those that do, let them know WHY you're not taking a dog from them. If they realise there's a market for dogs with tails attached, they might stop docking.

Hi Mishy,
I totally agree with you, i have got a cocker spaniel. When i got him all the pups were docked....loads of people has a go at them though because docking these days is apparently illegal. So most of the places you look they should be undocked if this law is right and im sure that it is. Enen though i do think that they do dock them these days just for hunting purposes for its health and saftey but your surley not gonna do that are you?

You need to contact a breeder if it is a puppy you are looking for. You could always get one from a rescue and save a life, but if it truly is a pup you want you will need to go to a breeder. Put a request in for the next litter, that your pup will not have its tail docked. That way you can ensure that you will have pup that hasn't had its tail removed.

Because the tails BREAK out in the field. A broken tail on an adult dog is messy and painful, and it often ends up being removed anyway.

There are reasons for docking. It is in the dogs best interest if it is a field dog. SOME people still HUNT, you know.

But thats right, the ARs here have no interest in actual FACTS!

Go here and click on search, it will bring up a list of breeders. You will just have to phone them and ask about the tail docking.
I'm like you and don't get why pet's are still docked, I understand why they dock true working dogs.
Good luck I hope you find your puppy soon.

GO TO THE ANIMAL SHELTER TO GET A DOG.

You are being selfish by wanting a purebred. There are so many dogs that need homes.

When will people get this??
