Do you mean college, or brown bagging for school at home?
If you are brown bagging a lunch for school, I would say have a nice bottle of water, a good sandwich and a piece of fruit, or a little packet of trail mix or something that has a good balance of sugars, fiber and protein.
If you are talking about packing for college, definitely get a case of water, case of something like gatorade to give you energy for classes, especially if you have afternoon and evening courses and need a boost. Don't get anything too sugary to drink because you'll just crash once you are in class or hitting the books! For food, definitely things that will stay for a while and that you can just grab and go. My favorites are granola bars, nutra-grain bars, small packets of things such as pretzels, cookies or when you're feeling in the mood to eat something really bad, combos and such. Check out BJs or Costco, they have some great packed items to take on the go!
Good luck!

Stay away from power drinks or any drink that contains corn syrup, try to find natural drinks with natural sugars.... homemade sandwiches have always been a good standby but try to use whole grains avoid the white bread if you can. If you want to cut down on the trash avoid prepackaged deals like lunch ables, I always prefer a good fresh Turkey Sandwich, fresh nuts or fruit and natural sodas or vitamin waters
