If you're a Senior then you should already know the answers to all of your questions and if you don't then I don't know whether that reflects on your abnormal stupidity or the school system's pathetic failure in educating the children of our nation. Either way, I feel like crying.

There are a lot of things that led to the start of the war. Everyone attibutes the assasination of Arch Duke Ferdinand as the "match that lit the flame" but there was more behind it. Go to a search engine like Yahoo or Google and type in either WWI or world war one. You'll find thousands of sites dedicated to this topic. As for the clothes and weapons, do the same, attire during early 1900's and weapons of WWI. Good luck on the project and even more on the classes. Hope all the A's work out for you.
oh, by the way, don't listen to those who swear they know all the answers about past wars. I'd say that 90% of people only know the basics and not the whole story about things that led to any war this country ahs been a part of. Most people still believe that the Civil War was about slavery when the reality of it is that slavey was not a big issue to the North or Union. Learn about the war in Europe dont just skim the surface. There are a lot of details that people miss when they skim.

The British Navy had changed from coal to oil powered ships. The Germans followed suit. However, the Germans did not have access to oil and started the "drive to the east" to complete the Berlin to Baghdad railway. Russia opposed this, as did England and France, because they knew that a powerful Germany would overwhelm them economically and militarily.
So, when Austria demanded ridiculous concessions from Serbia after Archduke Franz Ferdinand was murdered and Serbia didn't accede fast enough, Austria invaded Serbia and the Serbian ally Russia used this as an excuse to mobilize for war and the Austrian ally Germany followed suit and the Russian allies, France and Britain, also followed suit - we had a war.
But, the single cause was access to Iraqi oil.
Sound familiar?
There are websites all about Gatling guns and tanks and poisonous gasses, but I bet you get a great grade if you focus on the economic and strategic causes of that ongoing war. And, I think you can make a very convincing conclusion that we are still involved in the same war today.

I have learnt this one before the internet was invented-
The 1st world war started in Balcans (usual center for conflicts for Europe) As you may know or not the end of 19th century was full of freedomfighting revolution amongst different nations (see 1848 and austrio-hangurian empire),that builded loads of tension between nations .The treaty of versale 1815 has been the moment in the history which started the race between 3 massive empires for domination in Europe-that would be Germany,Austrio-Hungary and Great Britain. Germany was preparing for war for long time-the foreign policy of Otto Bismarc forced it.The straight answer for your question will be assacination of austrian prince Ferdinand in Sarayevo in n1914-I have to mention to you that you will have to check the daily date of assacination and the name of assacin as it has been 10 years since i have passed my a levels

Do some research on Bismark, on the series of treaties and alliances that were developed all across Europe, the Balkans and Russia. It would also be good to look up some of the independence movements in the Balkans since it is one of them that assassinated Prince Ferdinand and ignited the chain of events that eventually resulted in WWI.
Interesting subject.

The History Channel has lots of shows about that. I dunno about the website, maybe they can help. Machine guns made war much more dangerous so they dug trenches. Then, they invented the first tanks to combat the machine guns. The first tanks were very slow and looked dumb. It was the first war that used airplanes. They weren't used much though. Mainly surveillance of troop movement and also a small bomb here and there was hoisted out of the cockpit? Try Wikipedia (encyclopedia) and About.com

the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand is what really started getting things rolling. After that, tensions grew into Germany invading Belgium and its nearby countries. They kept going until them and France became deadlocked and they stayed that way until the end of the war.
