I'm 20 and will be 21 in 3mos. My boyfriend drinks but not heavily and he wants to take me out drinking when i turn 21. I've tried a few beers and liquor, but I can't get used to the taste. To me alcohol is disgusting and burns when I drink it. I seriously think I will never drink, but my bf said he was the same way, that he never liked alcohol either, he just said I'll get used to the taste.

My roommate is the exact same way as you, and she just turned 21.

She went out, had a couple of drinks and had a great time without getting trashed.

Have one or two beers, or a mixed drink IF YOU WANT. Just because you're turning 21 doesn't mean you have to be falling over drunk and puking.

I'm sure he'll want to buy you a birthday shot so take it, and then drink soda the rest of the night.

Remember it's your birthday and you get to do whatever you want :)

Have fun!

Do not drink because your boyfriend wants you to. The choice whether or not to drink is always yours. You don't have to drink because of tradition or because someone bought you a drink. If your boyfriend really cares about you, he won't pressure you to drink.

Yes, I do drink myself, but I never drank when I did not want to, that includes leaving drinks and partial drinks on the table when I decided I'd had as much as I wanted.

If you do decide you want to try drinking, sample the drinks of your friends to see if there is an alcoholic beverage you like. Since you haven't liked the beer and alcohol you have already tried, you might try sweet wines, schnapps, or cordials. People who don't like beer or whiskey often enjoy cocktails which mix lower proof (less alcohol) liquors and juices, cream or ice cream.

If you choose not to drink alcohol at all, there are hundreds of "mocktails" you could drink when you are out if you want to fit in. Only you and the bartender will know the difference.

Beer and liquor aren't the best choices if you don't like the taste.

Long drinks would be best. Especially fruity, sugary, or bubbly drinks, they can often hide the alcohol reasonably well. If you go to a good bar you should be able to tell the bartender you want something that hides the taste of alcohol and they should be able to make a couple suggestions.

I wouldn't go to a bar for your 21st birthday if you don't want to get pretty drunk. I've known people that didn't want to get drunk, but then they get their one drink at the bar, get carded, and the bartender now knows it is your 21st birthday, he might say something, and then everyone around you knows. Then people start buying you drinks because it is your first time and you start getting drunk fast. I suggest White Russians, peppermint schnapps, long island iced tea, and tequila with a bite of lime afterwords. You can't taste the alcohol in those, the tequila you will if you don't bite the lime quick enough though. Any fruity or sugary drink should be fine too.

If you don't want to drink, then don't. It is your body, not his. If he takes you out, order something light...a mixed drink with or without alcohol. Some of them, even with the alcohol don't really taste like theres any in it. There are many non-alcoholic drinks as well. Do what feels right for you.

Well, you really should go out for your 21st b-day....it's part of the fun. Just don't overdue it, you don't want to get sick. Just have a drink or 2. Ask the bartender for a sweet girly drink with coconut. You usually can't taste the alcohol as much in these types of drinks. Have fun.

Depends how strongly you feel, really, if you don't want to, then you won't do it.

I suggest mixing 1 part cap'n morgan spice rum with 4 or 5 parts coke. The sugar in the coke hides the taste of alcohol and the caffeene is a stimulant which offsets the depressant alcohol, so you don't want to fall asleep.

Plus it's very diluted so it doesn't burn at all.

Keep in mind, this is your decision and if your bf wont support that decision, than your in for rough relationship. But maybe he just wants to take you out for your bday. I would certainly recommend celebrating your 21st properly. I dont drink that much and I had a hell of a time. If you do go out, I can almost guarantee youll like a Washington Green Apple, and make sure you specify whats in it, alot of places have their own idea on how to make it. Anyway, its a shot of vanilla vodka, a half shot or shot of pucker green apple(whichever you prefer, I usually go for the full shot), and top it off with cranberry juice. And be sure to specify you want it as a mixed drink(some serve it as a shot). I'm sure you'll enjoy, it tastes like Kool-Aid. Another thing you might like is any of the flavored Bacardis with sprite. I prefer Bacardi O and sprite. Happy 21st in advance, have fun!!!

When I was 16 and 17 I'd get together with friends and we'd get drunk all of the time. When we drank stronger alcohols like Whiskey and stuff, the trick was: take a sip of the alcohol and then a sip of Coke (Or some sort of soda)...Or just stick to beer.

I can clearly see that you bf just wants for you to have fun on your 21st... I guess you can call it a "tradition" to go out on your 21st and get hammered...But I commend you for not wanting to... My advice to you is just either drink something REALLY fruity with not a lot of alcohol content... or dont drink at all and thank your bf for thinking of you... something good is like Smirnoff Ice...it honestly has no "gross" alcohol taste to it...
