I know that VLC player is one but it doesnt work for a lot of files.

Can you tell us which formats you want to view ?

VLC is the only one I know of, but you could try video repair programs that would allow the file to be played in any player.

I video editor probably would depending on how incomplete the file was. Something like windows movie maker but not that one specifically

Mplayer is a good one to try it with. It might be a little tricky to use considering it is a comandline based movie player but there are GUIs for it.

the GUI one doesn't come with the nice converter called mencoder which can be used to convert to a few formats.

i dont think you can do it with all video formats just some of them
