Because we are all sort of the same people,
we are all looking for answers in this life and bickering about the method?

Well, judging by what I've seen on yahoo-answers I'd say there are, at the very least, two common schools of atheist questioning. One would be those who, as you say, are actually looking for answers, the other would be those who want to show that none exist. Of course many people fall somewhere along a continuum between those poles, but I think the basic distinction is between people asking questions to get responses, and those asking them as a means to make statements.

I don’t think this distinction just applies to the atheists either: the religious folk I’ve seen seem to fall into the same general categories. I spent some time filing complaints against a fellow who solely devoted himself to propaganda against Islam, while making it rather clear that he only added question marks to his posts because the rules forced him to. My point is that not all here are seekers who bear questions; many are here to push their answers instead.

But you seem to allude to a deeper question about weather all people are really just looking for answers to the real questions of life. I’d say that, at some level, yes, everyone is. We all share those questions that must be responded to, but that doesn’t mean all are seeking answers—I think many (if not most) people are avoiding answers other than the ones they have already chosen; and some are trying to drown the questions out entirely.

I call myself an atheist because my religious quest took me through spirituality and out the other side to a point where my definition of 'God' was so broad that it had become meaningless. I studied religions very seriously for nearly twenty years and respect the power of religious belief in shaping both people and society. I come here to share my experiences and understandings and to learn from others.

And I am absolutely appalled at the biogotry and arrogant narrow-mindedness of some of the fundamentalist and evangelical Christians here.

I think they should be welcome here...
It can only be a positive thing to gain others' perspectives on things, I don't think we do that enough, within our religion, or even within our society. We should always be questioning why we do what we do, why we believe what we believe in our particular religion, rather than believing what people tell us to. Because mankind has always misconstrewed the Bible to relay their own beiefs and manipulate the masses. Any true Christian will do their own research and always question beliefs, and encourage discussion of beliefs that differ from their own.

to bicker is good, because it can lead to paths, and every path we take we are moving forward and everybody wants to move forward in life. Plus to talk if fun!

i like to share my feelings on religion with Atheists.

I come here bc I hope to help stop some people who are borderline from joining your cult.

I doubt Christians will take anything I say seriously (they're brainwashed), but hopefully it'll help someone who's on the fence become Atheist.

I like answering questions.
I like pissing off people who obviously want to be pissed off.
I like demonstrating that I have a better understanding of religion than the average christian.

Simply think about another section like "politics".

You'll meet there people who like politics and people who don't like politics.

Why would "religion & spirituality"-section be different from that?

Imagine a section called "Chocolate". You'd meet there those who love chocolate and those who dislike chocolate.

I think it is because most Christians take up a sword and start fighting at the smallest of questions. We should welcome their questions and dialogue with open arms, even if they disagree with us.
