Some fungi live only on human skin, hair, or nails. Others live on animals and only visit humans sometimes. Still others live in the soil. It is often difficult or impossible to identify the source of a particular person's skin fungus.
Heat and moisture help fungi grow and thrive, which makes them more common in skin folds such as those in the groin or between the toes. This also accounts for their reputation as being caught from showers, locker rooms, and swimming pools.
Ringworm usually responds well to self-care within 4 weeks without having to see a doctor.
Keep your skin clean and dry.
Apply over-the-counter antifungal or drying powders, lotions, or creams. Those that contain miconazole, clotrimazole, or similar ingredients are often effective.
Wash sheets and nightclothes every day while infected.
A severe or persistent infection may require treatment by a doctor. Antifungal pills may be given and are necessary if your hair is infected. Prescription antifungal skin medications, such as ketoconazole, are stronger than over-the-counter products and may be needed. Antibiotics may also be needed to treat related bacterial infections.
Infected pets also should be treated.

Can't tell you where he got the ringworm from as its usually from a cat, but it can come from dogs, hamsters, and any livestock such as horses or cows.
You need to take him to the pediatrician as the ringworm is a fungus that needs a topical cream.
"The causes of ringworms infection can be stopped rapidly by treating the condition with FUNGRX, a naturally based solution that works within 48-72 hours to effectively eliminate the fungus. You can't be serious about using that on your baby can you???
Take the kid to the doctor...even if you don't have the money.
There is an OTC salve called Blue Star Ointment that works on ringworm, but check with an MD to see if it's safe for kids.
Ringworm is actually a fungus.

Ringworm is a fungus, it is easily treated with a topical cream, take him to his ped. and he will prescribe a cream that is safe for children. Diet has nothing to do with fungus, it's always good to have a balanced diet but in this case, it will do no good.
Check out the pets at home, look for any balding patches or any areas where the animals have been scratching alot. If you have any questions about an area, take him/her to the vet to be checked. If you have no animals, than it could have been transferred from another person.

Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin or scalp characterized by the development of small red spots that grow to a size of about one-quarter inch in diameter. As the spots expand, the centers tend to heal and clear while the borders are raised, red, and scaly, giving them a ringlike appearence. Like other fungal infections, ringworm can be very itchy.
Recommendations
Eat a diet of 60 to 70 percent raw foods. Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and moderate amounts of broiled fish and broiled fish and broiled skinless chicken.
Do not eat any foods containing sugar or refined carbohydrates. Fungi thrive on sugar.
Avoid cola drinks, grains processed foods, and fried, greasy foods.
Keep the skin clean and dry. Expose the affected area to the air as much as possible.

Don't put motor-oil on the skin of 17-month old. Never a good idea.
1) Go to the doctor. I know with adults you can use anti-fungal cream, but I don't know about babies.
2) Treat this as a situation that needs medical attention--you don't want the ringworm to spread. You always want to ease the annoyance of it. It's not an emergency, but just coming up with an at-home solution isn't going to be good for the baby. Unless you have the medical knoweldge of a pediatrician, go to your baby's doctor.
