Actually, I'm quite sure serotonin is a neurotransmitter. That means that it a chemical in the brain. It's not in food...however, certain foods can *raise* levels of serotonin in the brain. I believe choclate is one of them. Why are you asking this? Are you concerned about depression? If so, just sitting all day long eating chocolate won't cut it.

That being said, only SSRIs (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) are something to look at. Just let your doctor know that you are experiencing low moods if you are, and then go from there.

Serotonin plays a role in emotions, but so do other neurotransmitters. Endorphins, for example, help elevate mood. Moderate exercise can raise these levels and give you a healthy "high."
