Everything in moderation...
Switching from regular to diet sodas is a good idea to cut back on calories, but I would Not consume to much of it. There has been some question as to whether Splenda is as safe as the industry would like us to believe. Also, there is some research out there that suggest because Splenda is so close to sugar, the body recognizes it as sugar and treats it the same way. And, there is something about or in diet sodas & tea (hot or iced) that can be a trigger for kidney stones (Yikes!). that's why I included the "moderation" part.
Something else to consider, carbonated drinks and caffeine can actually make your body "hold" weight. I would suggest drinking water and getting the R.D.A. and if you drink "ice" water, you will burn more calories. It cools the body so much that the body kicks in trying to warm itself, thus burning calories. b.t.w. ....I've lost 8lbs in about 3 weeks just by switching from colas and juice to ice-water. I flavor my own water by just dropping in a few berries or some lemon juice. I let it steep for awhile and then voila! Honey can make a fine substitute for a sweetner in some things, plus it has bonus benefits, like allergy relief if it's a local honey. : ) Hope this helps.

While it is true that there is less calories in diet sodas than in fruit juice, the calories from diet pops are empty calories, they contain no nutrition!
Diet pops only keep you craving for more sugar, even the fake sugar... Its not a good healthy habit.
If you want to lose weight, exercise and eat a balanced diet.
Cut out all junk, including diet popl!
You must also cut out refined foods( white bread, minute rice etc) that makes you crave for more sugar.
Eat whole grain breads, whole grain pasta and whole grain rice, the fiber will fill you up and come out...later on...
If you crave sugar have a piece of fruit, you'll get used to it in no time!
Drink plenty of water and walk at least 30 minutes everyday!
I lost 20 pounds that way, I admit it took a while, but it was and still is worth the time, and so little effort, really.
I am hooked to exercersise now! Its much more fun than being hooked on sugar, believe me!

Diet sodas are free of calories, true, but there is research showing that the chemicals in diet sodas can inhibit weight-loss efforts. Aspartame is NOT good for you, and Splenda is toxic! Read more about this on the web site I am providing below. A better option would be to drink water or brew decaffeinated iced tea at home. If you can't stand the taste of iced tea straight-up, you could add a small amount of sugar or a flavored syrup. But sugar is also extremely toxic to the human body (at least you'd be consuming less, though.) Good luck!

Yeah! A few years back all I did was give up soda and learn to like diet drinks and water, I didn't change anything else about my diet or exercise routine- and I lost 10 pounds! It really makes a difference as sodas have 100 calories or more per serving. Good luck on your diet!

Counting calories is b.s. You need to avoid eating a lot of white bread and switch to whole grain. Eat natural things like meat, vegetable and fruit. Working out just even a little is critical as it will help your metabolism. AVOID DRINKING SODA ANY KIND AS MUCH AS YOU CAN. Sugar is what makes people fat. Its all about sugar. Drink Tea and put only the minimal amount of sugar needed to enjoy the drink. There is a new way of thinking and working out. For example you'll lose more fat if you do sprints twice a week than if you you went jogging 5 times a week. Read Mens health and ready this Mark Hyman.

I have a very low opinion of sugar substitutes, period. Aspertame or Nutrasweet is probably the worst, but I wouldnt use Splenda either unless I were diabetic and then I would use it very sparingly.

Soda is designed to make you crave it. Lessening your addiction for it is much MUCH better than drinking the "diet" versions.

Try unsweetened iced tea or just plain water. Even watering down some REAL 100% juice would be better.

Good luck and Goddess Bless!

don't drink diet soda!! artificial sweeteners (sugar substitutes), which are also found in diet sodas, are one of the WORST things you can put into your body! and studies now have even shown that in the long run people will actually GAIN weight from artificial sweeteners, because it lowers your pH level (which causes high acidity in the body) and this hinders your body from loosing weight. Dr. Jonny Bowden has posted some youtube videos about this. you could check them out by searching his name in youtube. PS: you can use stevia as a natural sweetener (healthy and 0-calories!). it's sold at health food stores. instead of drinking diet sodas, you could drink a glass of water with one freshly squeezed lemon in it and add some stevia in it and ice cubes and a straw.... and whala, you have yourself a fresh cool summer drink! :) (the lemons is 20 calories - so that drink is a 20 calorie drink). lemons even raise your pH level (which causes LESS acidity in the body - great for your metablism, weightloss, etc..).

Regular soda contains approximately 200 calories per 12 ou can, whereas diet sodas are generally calorie free. You are paying a big price for chemicals, flavor and carbon dioxide. Water is calorie-free and is a good alternative.

You should try drinking carrot juice. It is actually quite sweet and will raise your blood sugar. It has about 70 calories per serving, but they are not empty calories.

The best thing for you to drink is lots of water and squeeze a bit of limon or lime for taste.

Try Crystal Lite (fruit punch is awesome!) as an alternative. Better yet, drink water. What's with the soda addiction? I've recently reduced PROCESSED sugar in my diet (which means I can still have fruit) and have lost about 5lbs! So, good luck!
