You need 3 cables. Connect one from the video out on the VCR to the Video in on the DVD. Take 2 more cables for audio left and audio right and run them from audio out on the VCR to audio input on the DVD.

When you dub, back up the VCR tape about 5 seconds from where you want to begin recording on the DVD. Press the DVD record button then press the VCR play button. Everything else should happen just like you were recording from a satellite dish or cable.

Search your area phonebook. Look under camera shops. Many such stores will transfer VHS tapes to DVD. How the quality is I do not know.

Buy a dvd/vcr combi. you do lose quality but videos are crap quality anyway so you may not notice.
