I do and she likes to go on this and I don't mind because it is better than chat rooms and can be quite imformative but can't we at least try to keep it a little bit clean and decent at least untill late at night, Come on all of you I'm sure you wouldn't want young girls to see some of the sick stuff on here, but why deny them the chance of trying to answer and help others My daughter loves to help people and if she knows an answer feels good and proud.

Thanks Bj at least some people have a bit of decency and as for why I let her on, I don't believe I should restict everything, she needs some freedom, but leave the porn till late late night.

I too have a couple of teenage daughters and would love to club some of the sicko who come on to this site to get their cheap thrills, come on yahoo keep this an open thing for the general public to use and not a dirty filthy sicko tool to give perv's cheap kicks, there are enough of those on the internet already.

i do agree that some of the stuff is over the top for teens, but like they say ,they have been educated elsewhere anyway. there should maybe be a teen branch where they can log in safely. just as you have age restrictions for movies, you need to decide whether you will continue to allow her to use this when you know what is possibly viewed.
i do feel sorry for the teens who ask questions as obviously they are too scared or embaressed to ask their parents or friends.some of the replies they get ,are thoughtless.do they not also have the right to have fears and questions answered?then again even on a teen site ,they will be asking these same questions ,which may offend parents who are priotective of their kids.
my children know that i use this site, but i won't encourage either of them to use it. sometimes i tell them some things which i have read and found interesting.but then i have a very open relationship with them, and know that the older one won't be too concerned with what he reads and the younger one will speak to me if something desturbs her.
it doesn't seem likely that things will change much, so you will either have to stop her from using this site or explain that some of the things are rotten that are said and that they are done so by people trying to get a reaction, and thatshe hsould never take it to heart. especially if she has a question or reply that gets a negative response.all this will teach her alot about the people in the real world, and even how to handle them.trust yourself that you are doing a great job -obviously of parenting.

I'm a teenage girl (late teens admittedly) but I'm sure that a lot of younger teenagers know more than you're either willing to admit or more than you'd expect.
It's unrealistic to think that she wouldn't know exactly what is being said on here, and even if things were a bit more controlled and restricted, she'd only hear it somewhere else.
It's upsetting that you can't shield your children from things that they really shouldn't hear until they are older, but that's the way the world is now.
Maybe you could talk to your daughter, and explain your side of the story...i.e. not everyone is vulgar, explicit and offensive. It's sad, but maybe it's ok for her to see it, as then she won't be shocked and unable to deal with it when she sees/hears things in the real world. At least you can keep an eye on what she sees on here.

It is what it is. If you don't like it stay away. You can't be nieve to think you can change other members behaviors. There are other Q&A sites for teens. Find those. But even there the teenagers I guarrantee will still find some way to be inappropriate. If your daughter likes helping people and I think she does the internet may not be such a good idea, maybe look into signing her up as a junior counselor or daycare assistant. The libraries sometimes hire volunteer children assisstants.

I agree with you all the way. I think the nonsense on here detracts from the good things that this site could bring. Actually, because of some people's enjoyment of being disgusting, I think this site should be abandoned all together. And no, actually, there are things on here that I've never heard of, don't need to hear of and don't want my daughter to know about. In particular, one person wrote in about how they'd abuse a baby. I threw up. Our teenagers might think they're street-wise but they're basically decent people who aren't ready to have every thought governed by the trash some idiots post.
I'd like to see some more moderators brought into being here.

I certainly feel for you. I wish Yahoo monitored this site better and stop the Trash. It has gotten almost as bad the Chat rooms -- almost! I don't use chat anymore for that very reason. Wanting a safe, clean site for your teen is not being puritanical or does it have a darn thing to do with free speech. I can only see Yahoo Answers getting worse as time goes by if nothings done so you may want to look for another web site for the young lady to view.

i'm a teenage daughter myself, and can i just point out the flaw in your logic. the internet exists worldwide in case you didn't know, and can be accessed by people from all across the globe. therefore many time zones are crossed, and since it is guaranteed to be late at night somewhere for someone at any given time by your watch, it is not possible to reserve less pleasant content until after your daughter has gone to bed.
how old is she anyway, your daughter? i'm 16 going on 17 and i am sensible enough to avoid questionable content myself without my parents having to consent or veto my use of the site.
--oh and i completely object to the idea of a monitored answers site for the under 18s. how are we supposed to find sensible, intelligent and insightful answers to our questions if the amount of people that can read and answer them is so restricted? sometimes it is a refreshing and pleasant experience to share knowledge with those outside your own age group

I do and write my questions and answers in a way that I would not mind her reading. The suggestion that it doesn't have to be clean late at night is no good though as this site is accessed from all round the world.

My daughter is just out of that age group. However it is difficult not knowing how mature your daughter is. As you say it is difficult to stop her and chat rooms can be worse. There is nothing I would think she has not heard at school and in some respects seen on TV. You are the only one who knows. I am sure you can answer her questions if she is unable to understand.

Nice sentiment. But as this is an international site, I can see a fundamental flaw in your suggestion - it's always going to be late at night somewhere in the world ;-)
