He's been humping himself for a few months now (the vet won't neuter him yet because he's so small). It doesn't bother me because he doesn't hump things. He generally stays to himself, goes in a corner and uses his paw and the floor. But the last 2 days he's started to whine and cry a little before he starts.
Is he in pain? Is it like an itch? Does he have control over this or is it for pleasure? Should I be concerned?

Well I have never heard of a dog maturbateing, but I thing every time it tries you should stop it. If it gets to used to it, it will never stop. So then next time you see it masturbating, Simply pick it up and start to play with it with a toy.

Sounds like hes enjoying it and finally getting the hang of it. It could be hes caused a rug burn or a splinter.
