Like the bible --in the SAME book as the TEN commandments TELLS us to do?
Should we put to death adulterers and rebellous teens like the bible tells us to do in the SAME book--(same part of the bible)...as the ten commandments is?

HOw do you know what laws to disregard and what not to disregard?

ANother Christian was making up crap again and said that the first five books were the Jewish law.--and old covenant REally? The first, genesis sounds like Jewish myth/folklore/history--all relative really , to me! Do you people ever actually read this book? How often to do conveniently skip over the vile, offensive, disgusting and nonsensical parts?

Well, if you claim to be a Christian then you must accept the WHOLE BIBLE--that includes the Old Testament and the New Testament.

I am Muslim, and I do believe and accept the fact that God sent The 10 Commandments to Moses, and he also sent the Torah (the Old Testament)--and he also sent the Gospel of Jesus/The New Testament, and the Holy Quran, which is the last book sent to mankind to, which re-states all that God has been telling Mankind from Day 1.

Yes, its true that parts of the Old and New Testament have been altered by human beings...But there are still many truths in the Bible. As for your being upset about the law of adultery and laws of the Sabbath---then that is the same attitude that many Jewish people had back then as well. We all know that many of them didnt like to keep the Sabbath, and some of them also plotted to kill Moses because he manadated that they keep certian laws.
So, you are not alone in your anger and disgust.

But, as for me and my house--we follow God.

Peace

In answer to your first question:
To put people to death for not keeping the "sabbath day holy" would not only be unchristian but it would be unamerican.True Christianity is about free will. So are the concepts upon which America is based, (also an outgrowth of Christian beliefs).

The Old Testament or Old Covenant was countermanded by Jesus Christ. The reason is that He came to fulfull the Law for us who could not. It is impossible for one human being to fulfill all of the Jewish law instituted in the Old Testament. (In the Jewish faith it would be the Torah and Tenakh.)

Jesus came to bring a new and living way, and a new covenant (also called an agreement or promise) to human beings. This agreement or promise is between a person and God as a continual commitment. It starts by by accepting Jesus Christ as the sacrifice and atonement for our frailties and evil deeds. (These are often called "sins".) This acceptance and agreement with Him ensures eternal life. Additionally, before Jesus (Messiah Yeshua) left earth the first time, he told His disciples to wait for the Comforter, the Holy Spirit. Now His Spirit is being poured out upon al flesh as prophesied in the prophet Joel's book.*

P.S. We don't skip over the offensive, disgusting, vile or nonsensical parts. The variety in the Bible is what makes it such an interesting read!

Yep, religion seems to evolve to meet the needs and reflect the beliefs of the communities and cultures it serves, and the bible etc unfortunately (for those who follow them) is sort of written in stone. The treatment of women in the bible is another example of how offensive it is to current sensibilities. If my wife ever started being subservient to me I'd be worried, not flattered.

But don't forget that many people really do need the security of (and pulse of) being told every week what is good and what is bad in the world. There are two realities anyway, the objective one where science now rules and the subjective one where religion still holds some sway. From the inside looking out, our lives are about feelings much more than logic.

People long for a uber parent... a god who plays the same role in their adult lives that their parent either did or should have played in their early development as a human being.

Which Sabbath? The Jews believe it's Saturday. So do Seventh Day Adventists. Others believe it's Sunday. Who gets to decide which Sabbath is valid? Sunday, because it's more widespread among Christians? Or Saturday, because it was originally the Sabbath? Moreover, I would think the First Amendment would trump any of this "keeping the Sabbath holy" crap.

Mans nature hasnt changed. The bible proves its accuracy by showing the vile , disguiting aspects of man. The guys right. Levitical law (which the people wee under) had to submit to keeping the commandments. You know what to regard and disregard by looking at Jesus. We are not under law, we are under GRACE. With Jesus in the New Testament we've got a savior .

Yes there is a lot of Cherry picking of bible verse by "believers"; that's why we should not be suprised that they cherry pick science as well.

When you're driving a car, how do you know what signs to disregard and what not to disregard? You do anything to avoid having an accident, right?

With God's law it's the same. We should do anything to avoid an accident.
