That IS a very good question. Maybe the fact of the mater is that people don't always practice what they say they believe...
Let me ask you this....What makes you think there are so few atheists in this nation? Wait a minute....it's probably because we don't run around trying to convert everybody!!!

I really doubt that it would be safer if all were athiests. Trouble is with the Mexicans that come in illegally and then want citizenship so they can be Americans and do their crimes. It is a proven fact that most of the crime is committed by the Spanish population, that when they move into an area the crime rate goes way up, they get into the system and take from it so they can have more babies that will be all paid for and be citizens of this country so they can bring more in. Athiest cannot commit all those crimes but the Mexicans can and do and I am sure some of the atiests are guilty of some of them also as is all other religious peoples. So the Mexicans come in breaking our laws and want to stay so they can keep on breaking them and so many are such bleeding hearts that they want the law breakers to be given citizenship and amnesty so they can keep on breaking out laws and we can support them in our prisons and their families that are now on welfare because they have gone to prison. Yeah, we need to give them amnesty so we can have Spanish as our national language and then English will be a forgotten language in this country.

Actually, please post your facts. I believe that there are many more atheists than you think. I lump into the atheist pile those who go to church twice a year max and just call themselves christian because it is socially acceptable. This country would not be where it's at if there were more true Christians.
1. Correct
2. Not necessarily. This is an assumption. But you are correct that the vast liberal institution called colleges are filled with 99% non-Christians or those who call themselves christian, yet don't follow the Bible's teachings.
3. Probably a correct assumption. However the logic that atheists are highly educated, therefore low educated people are "God believers" is flawed logic.
4. Incorrect. I would say that the vast majority of those we have in prisons do not attend Church or follow God's laws.
I would suggest that you read up on logic and how to use it. Here is a nice website about it. http://www.answersingenesis.org/tj/v12/i2/logic.asp

Crime and violence is due to the absence of the "right level" and "right type" of moral education that only the Bible can provide. The "higher levels" of crime you see in black neighborhoods is traceable to the history of slavery, the jim crow segregation era, and the other evils of capitalism that have such destructive effects on families and communities. Those black churches mentioned are based on the catholic and protestant model of false and twisted doctrine so they have little effect on the crime rate and other moral problems in black and white communities.
An interesting article on the crime problem can be found at http://www.gnmagazine.org/issues/gn55/crime.htm They don't have the complete picture but they're close to it.
Also, checkout the video and literature on the existence of God at http://www.beyondtoday.tv/programs/archive/?ProgramID=bt015 This might cure your atheism problem and give you better insight into the truth behind the crime problem.

I'll try to answer that. One explanation is given by Steven D. Levitt in his Excellent book Freakonomics in which his statistical analysis says that lack of abortion services is a key indicator of crime. There is a correlation between unwanted pregnancies and crime and the crime rate dropped significantly around the time the children born 15-20 years after Roe v. Wade became law, just when those children would have started to commit crimes. So you could argue that Christianity thru it's anti-abortion policy is creating crime by casuing unwanted and unloved children to be born.

There is more atheists than you think, but to answer your question, we have make-believers, Unbelievers, Atheists, Agnostics, Muslims. A True Christain will not go against God's word, A make-believer can or anyone of these other groups I mentioned. I Live close to Louisville, Ky. USA In Indiana, In Louisvile, Ky.Out of 100 murders a year , 95 of them are caused by black people, No I am not against Blacks, I have many friends that are blacks, Yes I am White, Out of those 100 in Louisville, Ky. being murder, 95 % of them is black & the other 5 % is white. If you don't Believe me, call the Louisville, Ky. Police department.

Another reason an Atheist would be less likely to commit a crime is because we value our lives. Crime does not pay, and often will result in bodily harm. Who wants to spend the only life they have in Jail.

Obvious answer: atheists rarely commit the crimes. Majority are committed by religious people. Besides, some of the worst crimes are committed in the name of religion eg terrorism.

Terrorists are some of the most religious people in the world.
Then again, there is as much crime caused by atheists too.
People don't commit a crime just because they do not believe in God. We belong to one common race....we are all humans. We are not divided into believers and non-believers.

Believing in God isn't what keeps you away from sin/crime. It's living by his way and his word where true change starts to happen. When you surrender yourself to the Lord, he will then begin to mold you and change you. If most people acknowledged God and didnt' try to oust him from their lives and surrendered to him, this country would be a lot safer.
