What are the post effects of surgery done to the leg? I know there will be blood clots and internal infections. But are these bearable pains? I'm considering going under the knife to correct my slight bow leggedness.

What surgery are you having and how old are you?

In 1998 I had a "stop gap" surgery to correct my right knee "bow leggedness" which is really a degradation of the cartridge in the knee. This surgery is called "high tibial osteotmy."

I got an infection and was ill for nearly 6 months. The surgery really did not take and I had to have my knee joint replaced in July of 2002.

The immediate pain after surgery was managed with morphine. Be careful with that cause it will slow down you bowls and bladder. I had to have a urinary catheter and did not have a bowl movement for 5 days.

Pain after going home was managed with Tylox. You'll need something stronger than Tylenol with codeine or that type of painkiller.

I stayed home for five weeks, but probably could have gone back after four. If you have a two story home, you will want to find a way to sleep down stairs for about a week. Stick to your physical therapists directions emphatically.

Good luck.

So what if you are slightly bow legged? It's not a big deal and surgery has many risks.
