1 Peter 4:

3For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do—living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. 4They think it strange that you do not plunge with them into the same flood of dissipation, and they heap abuse on you. 5But they will have to give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead.

Yes it is true.
It is basically saying that we have chosen to walk a different path than we have in the past.
People do not understand the change and they make fun of and ridicule us for not being like them.
It is telling us to not worry about it. They will have to give an account to God in the judgement.

3. For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries:
4. Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you:
5. Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.

Two answers are available.
TRUE, and if it is true then you have to decide how you're going to live you life in light of what you have learned in this Scripture.
FALSE, then you have no worries and should not even spend your time looking for religion or worrying what the Bible has to say about anything.
If it's true then you know there is a God, he has spoken through his word, provided his Son to pay the penalty for sin and through him we have eternal life. There will be a new heaven and new earth and eternity is ours with God. Not the picture of angels in heaven on clouds with harps but something the 1 Corinthians says "eye has not seen, ear has not heard, nor mind has imagined"
If it's not true then you live and after that you die so eat, drink, and be merry.

Peter 4:3-4 : A person whose life changes radically at conversion may experience contempt from his or her old friends. He may be scorned not only bcos he refuses to participate in certain activities, but also because his priorities have changed and he is now heading in the opposite direction. His very life incriminates their sinful activities. Mature Christians should help new believers resist such pressure of opposition by encouraging them to be faithful to Christ. Dissipation refers to wasteful expenditure and intemperate pursuit of pleasure especially drinking to excess.
Peter 4:5 The basis of salvation is our belief in Jesus, but the basis of judgement is how we have lived. Those who inflict persecution are marked by punishment when they stand before God. Believers have nothing to fear, however, because Jesus will be the final Judge over all (John 5:22, 2 Timothy 4:1)

"living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry"?!?!?!?!
Did I miss a memo? Someone is getting to do all that stuff while I sit here raising my children to treat people fairly, take care of the planet, be charitable, take care of each other and to be contributing members of society sans entitlement and 'victim' attitudes. Wow, I really need to start reading the fine print.

And, uh, NO, it's not a true scripture.....it was written by men needing to control the masses with threats.

No! Debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry is just your typical good time on a Friday night and a heartily endorse everyone getting involved, especially in the orgies. There will be no consequences, so join in!

yes, it is true but you need to read from the kjv its easier to understand, and start from the first verse in chapter 4, so
you can see the whole picture.... its talking about the ways of the world and the non believer before you heard the gospel preached and received the holy ghost, because thats when the transformation happens... its awesome, jesus is real. my life has definitely been changed.

Yes.

Scripture teaches us that EVERYONE will be held accountable for their actions. Christians find solace in letting God judge because we know He is a righteous judge. Revelation gives good examples of retribution for those who mock & abuse God & His children.

Yes. I believe everything contained in the Bible is true and edifying.

What do you consider false about this verse?

Why not finish reading verse 6, For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead--------- Dead in what, We don't preach to someone laying in a coffin, But we do preach to someone that is dead in SIN.
