People's definition of Satanism vary. To some it is the literal worship of the fallen angels in Christian Theology. This religion appeals mostly to psychotic and criminal types

Then there are the so-called "philisophical" or "LaVeyian" Satanists who follow Anton LaVey. These types will tell you Satanism is the worship of the self...not really Satan who is just a symbol..., which would make it hedonism. In reality, most of these people really seem to be members of a personality cult, centered around Lavey.

The 64 dollar question is where the line between criminal Satanists and Philosophical Satanists is. LaVey himself did plenty of things people would find psychotic and criminal. On at least one occasion, he engaged in a "cannibal feast" consisting of a human leg. He was the passive witness to his grandson Stanton's molestation, even though Satanists supposedly don't believe in harming kids. He pimped out female followers and beat them when they didn't bring back enough money. He had to live on welfare and handouts in the 80's, even though Satanists supposedly don't believe in charity. He abused his animals, even though Satanists supposedly would never do that. He beat his wife Diane, sometimes to unconciousness. These are the kind of people that usually wind up on the T.V. show "COPS", and would hardly be considered the "Alien Elite".

It's funny and sad when these Satanists are confronted with the truth of LaVey's life, because they always make excuses for him. When you point out he's a wifebeater, they might say "So? Everyone beats their wife!"

And perhaps statements like that give a clue into the kind of person that wants to be a Satanist in the first place. Perhaps that answers your question.

It's an ideology. You see people worship Satan because they agree with his philosophy. If you view the world through any religion and take a step back to understand how limited we are in our capacities you may understand a bit more.

The issue is that God created us and we either worship him OR we suffer for an eternity with fire and brimstone raining upon our heads for an eternity. We didn't ask to be born and we didn't ask to be forced to live under these particular rules. There is no such thing as free choice because living how you want to live is making a decision. Whether living for God or living for yourself which is what Satanism is truly about. It's not worshiping Satan himself for he is just a fallen angel it's about living how you want to live by the rules you have set for yourself and not by the rules set by a higher power.

Can you be a good person and a moral person with outstanding values and character and still be a Satanist? Absolutely you can. Evil and Satan are not the same thing and being a part of one does not mean you are part of the other. This is propaganda that has been passed down by the church since its inception.

Think about how flawed the world is. You understand that Satan was created by God so then you understand that God is the creator of all Evil. God created good and he created Evil. Is this not 100% accurate? Creating the ability to commit evil acts and creating a vehicle to commit evil acts, such as the human being, then one must conclude that God created Evil. Does this offend you? If it does then you are narrow minded. It does not mean God supports Evil but that evil is a necessary facet of life itself. Just like a math formula the universe is based around balance. If there is no balance there is no universe. There is white and black, up and down, matter and antimatter, good and evil, heaven and hell....... It's how it's all designed.

Satanists play their part in order to keep things balanced and the Universe in order. God is omnipresent and knew before creating Satan what would happen. He knew before creating all of the millions of fallen angels before creating them that they would fall short of the glory of God. He did it because it was necessary for life to exist. God created evil maybe not because he wanted to but because he realized that had to.

Satanism isn't about worshipping Satan. Most Satanists don't even believe in Satan or the Biblical God.

Satanists are Atheistic and some are agnostic. We hold no belief in god, devil, heaven, hell. We use the Mythological Satan as a symbol for wisdom and human nature. We worship ourselves and Nature.

The Church of Satan doesn't worship the devil and I'm not sure that very many so called satanists do either.

They don't believe they were 'made' by something higher. They don't believe in god nor satan. They believe in themselves. To understand you have to be able to put your belief system aside and look at them in the context of theirs or you will never understand.

I agree that Satan was made by man and it is therefore silly to worship Satan.
