Shooey,
The problem with masturbation, is not the act itself. Stimulating yourself to orgasm, actually causes harm to no one. The real problem, is much more serious, and spiritually deadly. I think that if you are honest with yourself, you will admit, that you cannot do it, without imagining the participation of another person. It is the dirty little fantasies that accompany masturbation, that make it sinful. Jesus taught, that if you even look at a woman, to lust after her, you have already committed adultery, which violates the Commandments of God. We must all wake up and realize, that our thoughts have power in the spiritual world. What you think, becomes your nature, literally. If you constantly think of people as nothing but sex toys for your pleasure, then you will drive the Holy Spirit away from you. This is why masturbation is so dangerous. On the surface of it, it appears rather innocent. I don't know anybody, who masturbates without thinking about another person at the same time, and usually in less than holy circumstances. Hope this helps.

No. This is a restriction placed by the Victorian era which has somehow survived to the present day. There is no specific reference in scriptures which state this is sinful. Alfred Kinsey found that it is common in nearly all men and nearly 2/3 of the women on this planet masturbate regularly.
Some religious proponents will try to cite the story of Onan, but if you read it, you'll find that there was a different problem than what they describe.

It is a sin. It clearly states in the Bible that you should not lust after people. Since, to masturbate, that is what you are doing, you are sinning. I am a Christian.

I have often wondered this also. Do we masturbate and stay loyal to our spouses and/or not commit premarital sex? Or do we abstain from masturbation and pray we get thru it? Or do we marry just for sexual reasons? God does prefer us to marry rather than lust. I do know that much. sorry, not much help, some say self-gratification is wrong.

An older definition of masturbation is self-abuse. 1 Corinthians 6:18 (NIV) further confirms this, saying that unlawful sexual relations defile our own bodies. "Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body."

Im Muslim/Islam
masturbation is haram ( not allowed )
Unless it is your lawful wife do it for you, in certain cases as she is menstruating and u really want it.
Or permissable in cases where u want to prevent in doing sex with a lady u are not lawfully married to.
Masturbation can really lower your sex drive when u do it with your wife, and she will not be satisfied ( thats the main reason)

The bible says we are to submit ourselves to the law.Unless you live in a state where prostitution is legal masturbation is your only alternative to corrupting an others virtue with sex out of wedlock.

It is a sin under two conditions: 1) if it is compulsive, meaning you are hooked on the feeling itself and can't control it, and 2) if you use porn/lustful fantasies as a vehicle for your masturbation.
