So you want to go natural. Do you want long or short hair? I have many friends who have undergone this process and the healthiest way is starting fresh with cutting it all off. Now just because it is short does not mean you do not look good. This is a patient process. The reason for cutting it all off because you want to get all the relaxed hair out of your head. What is usually done is once the hair is relaxed, the person lets the hair get new grow. The new grow is the unrelaxed hair. This is the natural hair. Depending how fast your hair grows out from the root will play a large factor when you should take the final step into cutting your hair off. Some people do not want it to be that short when they do take that step in cutting the hair. Believe it or not the best person to do this process is not the beautician but your barber. Barbers or usually detailed in getting the shape you want as far as the hairline and the nape. After that you then can decide what style you want whether it is going to be short or twist locs.

I *think* that I am in the transition of goin natural as well :)

Havent had a relaxer since June, but this is what I do and my hair comes out great even now.

I don't shampoo my head, instead I opt for the No-Shampoo method where i just use conditioner on my head, I condition my head as if I were shampooing and then deep condition with a heat cap. After I rinse the conditioner out I apply Olive Oil and then wet roller set my hair. Dry your hair overnight and take the curls out in the morning by fingerstyling. My hair turns out great!

But others have cut off the new growth entirely or let the relaxer grow out by cutting a few inches or 1/2 inch of the relaxer every 6 wks until you end up cutting off all the new growth.

Also try cornrowing your hair. Just recently I started wearing a half wig by outre. I dont know how effective or damaging this will be since I just started a week ago.

Many people choose different ways to transition. Here are some choices:

1) Cut all of your relaxer off today. I did this and I loved it. This option is good if you have no problem with short hair, if you like your grain of hair, and you want to start your process immediatly.

2) Cut out your relaxer gradually while styling hair with straw sets, and other low matinence styles. Also you can grow out your hair under braids.

Info:
a.Start your process with a professional consult with a natural hairstylist.
b. Your hair might start to break off where your relaxed hair and natural hair meet. Don't panic this often happens. It depends on your hair texture.
c. It will take time to rediscover your hair .
