Marysia,
Not sure what you mean by "how does this differ". Do you mean differ from our spirits as human beings, or differ from an essential spiritual experience called by many names but what amounts to an initial acceptance of Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord?
If you relate to it by calling it God's aura then yes. But He is so much more than that:
The Holy Spirit is the omnipresent reflection of God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son. It is God's omniscient presence here on Earth with us.The Holy Spirit was the Spirit of the Father that was encased by human flesh as Jesus Christ when He was on earth. When Jesus left, His Spirit was free to reach out and touch everyone who wants that.
When Jesus left earth before His ascension to heaven, He told his disciples to wait and He would send "the comforter". * That is what the Holy Spirit does. In addition to comforting, He teaches, protects, provides, and functions as the other two manifestations of God (Jesus and the Father), but is able to be in all places, helping all human beings simultaneously.
Those who seek after Him with all their hearts can not only find Him, but be FILLED with Him...the Holy Spirit, walking fully filled with Him like Jesus Christ did. Because we are human we will make mistakes, unlike Jesus. But, being filled with God's Spirit is the means to unlimited power** and knowledge. Depends on how much you want of God. A committment to God requires a willingness on your part to seek after Him and obey Him as much as possible.
In these last days before the Return of the Messiah, Jesus Christ (Yeshua), God in the form of The Holy Spirit is pouring out Himself upon everyone that sincerely wants Him to. The Bible says He is pouring out His Spirit upon "all flesh".*** (In the old English translation.)
You can get a jump-start on this experience by asking God for a "Baptism of His Holy Spirit". This can be done either at home alone or by going to a church where this experience is taught and accepted and asking them to pray for you to receive it.The experience is similar to taking a waterfall shower in a refreshing and powerful, life-giving force. People often get healed of diseases, psychological and physical, get relief from oppressing habits like smoking, drugs or alcohol, during this experience. Sometimes people even speak in languages they didn't know before or didn't learn.**** If that happens, don't be afraid. The new language is an additional spiritual tool that is highly valuable.
Go for it!

When a person accepts Christ as their Savior, God indwells them with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit guides, comforts, strengthens, and communes with each believer. The difference is in how much influence people allow the Spirit to have in their lives. Is the Spirit a resident in your life, or is the Spirit the dominate thing in your life. When a person is saved, they get the complete Holy Spirit. God does not hold back part of the Spirit to give to them later if they jump through the right hoops. The thing we must do is allow the Spirit to work in our lives and have control of our lives to where He is able to do the work intended. This is what is meant by being led by the Spirit.

We have souls (the spiritual part of our body). The Holy Spirit was sent to earth so the presence of the Lord could be nearby. Many people ask the Holy Spirit to dwell within them and show them the way. The Spirit guides us and often helps us with the knowledge and understanding of the Word of the Lord. Many have felt the power and the presence of the Spirit in worship.

the difference between the two -- the Holy Spirit is the spirit that dwells within God. Ours is only a milisenticimal fraction of His Spirit.

Holy Spirit is God's active force which he has used throughout time for creating, for knowing, for revealing, etc. The spirit that dwells within us is a portion of his spirit which allows us to have life but it is there at God's will and differs from Holy Spirit. We must ask for Holy Spirit in order to receive it, unless, we are of the 144,000 chosen ones who will rule in Heaven, in which case, we automatically receive it whenever we use a portion of it.

First of all the Holy Spirit is NOT a thing. The spirit that indwells a believer is the exact same spirit as the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity. IE: God the Father....God the Son....God the Holy Spirit

Many People think that the Holy Ghost/Spirit is just a ghost/spirit. But He isn't He is a person He is alive. We have souls that can either worship the devil or Christ Jesus. And you cannot serve both the Bible says"No man can serve two masters." The holy Ghost/Spirit is what Jesus said would come and help us. He pricks our hearts when we do something wrong and when we ask Jesus into our hearts and ask The Holy Ghost/Spirit to come inside of you (not always immediately sometimes you have to wait) you will gain the ability to pray in toungues.

The "spirit" that you are talking about that dwells within us is our human spirit, like your own free will. The Holy Spirit is the presence of God that can dwell in you to make you whole.
The human spirit gives you strength to do the possible. The Holy Spirit gives you strength to do the impossible!

To talk about the Holy Spirit, I need to refer to the Trinity.
There is God, the Father,
There is Jesus, God's Son,
And there is the Holy Spirit
God is who rules the heavens and the arth
Jesus is who came to earth as human and who will return
The Holy Spirit is who rules inside of us if we let him in
The Holy Spirit is whom comes into our heart when we accept Christ into our lives. I don't know what you mean when you talk about "the spirit that dwells within us" or what religion you are referrring to, but this sounds like an accurate description of the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit is created via God to steer, inspire and empower Christians. Holy Spirit makes a Christian relatively dedicated and shop on with God's techniques. Nowhere contained in the Bible Holy Spirit is mentioned comparable as God. you could call it capability of God living in dedicated human beings.

The Holy Spirit is the third part of our Lord and Master.
"The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Ghost)" speak of these three parts.
