So that you can better understand my girlfirend and I got into she threw a knife at me and so I just tried to scare her a little bit so I pored about 3 cups of gasoline on the grass and lit it it got bigger than what I though it would be so I tried to put it out but someone called the cops so I fled from the sence. Her mother said it is up to her to press charges so if they don't press charges with no witnesses will it be dropped out of court? I wanna settle it out of court pay her a amount of money and she sign a docoument I think she will agree to it but will that be legit? I don't think a fire that small would be attemped arson is it? It's north carolina and in washington they might try to pin that on me I am going crazy I need some guidance I'm not a jail bird I don't belong in jail I was not trying to hurt anyone I just wanted to scare her a little bit. Please help me out! :(

you said you poured it on the grass. and lit the grass on fire. a gas fire spreads fast.that's why someone called the cops. but it's not like the cops don't know you did it. if they wanted to arrest you they would have already. if she presses charges she'd be stupid because she had a knife. if she was going to press charges she would have already done it when the cops were there . they asked her if she wanted too and she must have said no. so she can not go back later and say she's changed her mind and wants to press charges now. there's a time limit on things like that. now if she was raped or something serious like that and she chose not to press charges right away. she can go back and say she's changed her mind. but not in a situation like yours. besides fortunately for you the fire was contained and did not get out of hand. so this is really a domestic situation. and it is not in her hands. it is in the police and court systems hands. if you have not heard from them yet you probably wont. you should not have ran from the situation though. you will be OK don't let your self worry any more.

The police can prosecute you if she does not press charges, but normally don't. And if in anger we do something that can cuase danger I am not sure you don't need to be in jail, since a normal person does not set a fire to teach someone a lesson.

Sorry but that is about the way I feel and guess what a jury of 12 other people would normally feel the same or even if one or two on a jury did not agree, I doubt they would want to publicly disagree

Next of course to reach a settlement you will have to have an attorney do it, since if you try, it would be the crime of bribing a witness ( but your attorney can do it as a settlement)

So what you need is an attorney to work out all criminal and civil issues.

The girl doesn't have a leg to stand on........legally. When did this happen? Anyhow, don't worry about this and don't pay her any money. In fact, that could be what her Mother wants, so do not pay her one penny. She's bluffing you. Tell her, you will report her daughter for trying to kill you with a lethal weapon, and that YOU are going to the police and report her. Chances are she will back off because her daughter could be in a heck of a lot of trouble. Attemped murder is bad to have on her record. Sit back, relax and think about this for awhile. You are on top of this situation.....................so hold to the story of attempted murder.

Actually, it would be arson. You were successful in lighting the fire. Better hope there are no witnesses, or that your local authorities dont read your post.
