The Puritans (basically extreme Protestants) believed singing and dancing was a sin. The Puritan religion was compulsory in the UK after Charles I was beheaded and Oliver Cromwell (a strict Puritan) became the leader of the country in 1649, but then in 1658 Oliver Cromwell died, and in 1661 Charles I's son, Charles II, was crowned king.

Islam does not class dancing and singing as a sin. Muslim women should not dance in public though, it is OK for them to dance where there are other women, like at a wedding, the women and the men are separate, it is then OK for the women to dance. Women are considered 'not nice' if they dance in public, most husbands will not allow it. the men dance and sing as soon as they hear music, wherever they are.
