It is by far the best place to learn about puppy mills. It is part of an organization which rescues the dogs when they are too old or too sick to be bred any more. When HUA and similar organizations do not rescue them, the dogs often have their necks broken or are shot and are placed in the trash.

It is a cruel breeding set up. The people running these operations don't care about the animals well being. The only thing they are about is how many puppies the female dog can put out in a year. They receive little or no vet care at all. And are kept in small pens with no socialization.

So they are breeding these pure bred dogs who come out with birth defects and exposed to every disease under the sun due to very poor sanitation. And now that mix breeds peek-a-poo, puggle etc are popular I'm sure they are breeding them too.

These puppies are often sold to Pet Stores where the consumer pays a high price for a dog that is going to have major health problems when they get older. This is why some radical organizations http://www.peta.org push not to buy puppies from pet stores. Now some pet stores are taking to buying from select breeders that do treat their dogs OK.

Some puppy mills also breed dogs for the expressed purpose to sell them to research laboratories. These are usually beagles. I think they may have a little better set up because they have to be in good shape so the researchers can do their experiments on them usually for about 1.5 - 2 years and then put down. So this is a jacked up situation also.

When hunting for a puppy you just have to be careful. Because some private pet owners treat their dogs just as bad as puppy mill owners or worse.

I can list some stories that will curl your toes about the horrible things people do to their "pets"

It is a puppy factory. Dogs are fed as little as possible to keep them alive, live in their own feces and urine, never have the loving touch of an owner, bred every heat cycle until their insides basically start falling apart. Many females are taken out back and shot after their use as a breeder has come to an end. Yes, these animals are hurt from neglect. These dogs have problems that live with them for the rest of their lives even when they are taken from the mills.

Puppy mills are big breeding farms that really dont specialize on the pedigree or good conformation of the animal. They are in it for the all mighty dollar. With that said...they dont feed well or keep kennels up. They are for the quantity not the quality. The animals are not socialized well and the animals are not monitored well so you can get inbreeding on certain animals. Inbreeding needs to be managed by a highly trained experienced breeder of the highest quality.

A puppy mill is a place that mass produces puppies. They usually have multiple breeds. The dogs are kept in small cages, aren't socialized, are fed the cheapest quality foods available, are often kept in filthy conditions and are bred over and over and over again until they are either bred to death or they can't produce any more because they are to ill or used up.Most mill dogs/puppies never receive any kind of vet care. The animals there are often emotionally, mentally and physically abused.Puppies from pet stores most often come from mills.

Puppy mills are terrible places. They breed only for profit with no concern for the animals they use. They are always neglected and often downright abused.
Don't every buy a puppy from a pet store as they usually get their puppies from "mills" Only buy from a breeder whose dogs are well cared for and loved and whose puppies are social and healthy. A true breeded who loves the breed and is trying to improve it is what you are looking for. Or, better yet, adopt a pet from a local shelter or rescue group!!!!

Puppy mills continuously breed dogs for the explicit profit of selling the puppies. This means the mother is bred over and over to the point that her health deteriorates as well as the health of her offspring. There is no concern between the genetics and temperment of which dogs are allowed to breed. It is purely profit based.
This leads to a dog that may be agressive, tempermental, and cursed with a myriad of health problems when it is older.

It is where they grind up puppies to make flour.

No, it refers to places that breed puppies and are more concerned about making a buck than caring for the animals.

It can refer to a pet shop in the mall or it can refer to a place that breeds to sell to universities for scientific research.

Anyway you look at it they may as well be grinding them up.

They're ugly, evil breeding establishment's that breed a female back, back, to back for usually about 4 years. The female's are vitimin and mineral depleted and completely worn out. She, before then ,is producing inferior pup's that are so often riddled with very bad health problem's. A very say, sick business that should carry a very large fine and jail time.
