Ensure you are allowing the unit to cool sufficiently by not placing any objects on top of it's cooling events. Especially ensure that venting under the unit is allowed.

Sometimes it might be tempting to put some books or otherwise underneath the unit to get the picture aligned correctly. This may not be feasible as doing so may be blocking vents.

Failing that, I would return the unit to the manufacturer for exchange or refund.

Yes, most likely you've got a clogged air filter. Some units have two, three or four. Click the model number into the OEM's site and search the PDF manual for "filter".

Most ceiling mount projectors require removal of the mount to access the slide out filters. Be sure to clean them all.

In some cases, there's an extremely fine wire mesh filter on either side of the projection lamp itself. An old toothbrush will clear these up...after the unit is cooled to room temperature!

If your filters are clean and the problem persists, your unit needs bench repair.

In addition to not covering it up with anything, most projectors have a dust filter. If this gets plugged the projector can't get enough cooling air to the lamp and safety interconnects will turn it off. SO ... check for a dirty filter and either clean it or replace with a new one.
