High-definition television offers a clearer and more detailed picture because it contains more information. Television pictures are made up of many dots or pixels that form the image you see, therefore by using more of these pixels, in a high-definition (HD) transmission a more clear and sharp image is available.

Just a general term thrown around to refer to digital tv.
Digital TV usually comes in tow standards:
SDTV (Standard Definition TV) and
HDTV (High Definition TV)
Unfortunately marketers have tended to just thrown around the term HDTV whenever referring to digital television. This is despire SDTV being the more common form of digital TV.
As you can guess from the simple naming, SDTV is a poorer sibling to HDTV because SDTV has an inferior resolution.

High-definition just means in very very good detail. So clearer, sharper pictures than a standard TV. Personally I can't see what the fuss is all about, my standard TV is plenty clear enough, and I'm not going to spend thousands of pounds on getting a picture which isn't going to make any difference to my viewing pleasure.

High definition TV. There a three standards at present, used by the
USA, by the Europeans and by the Japanese all of them digital and
have LCD or Plasma screens. Experts say the Japanese version is
the best because it is expandable into various other systems but it
is the most expensive to operate and buy.

It is the latest technology in tvs. It uses lcd or plasma to display high resolution videos. For eg. 1080p these resolutions brfore could only be achieved by monitors.
