give you a different perspective on stingrays???
Damn b4 that i was like sting rays pffffffttt wot the hell can they do......but now i find them really scary things i nvr want to deep sea diving again.

I read in People magazine that stingrays, for the most part, do not startle easily. Less than a dozen fatal injuries have been reported worldwide! It is scary to think that this man who dealt with crocs and poisonous reptiles was killed by this aquatic animal but it just goes to show that we should respect wildlife, not fear it. You can't prevent an accident even within 10 miles of our homes, let alone swimming in the open waters. Just use caution and common sense.

No because I grew up on the sea and know that sting rays are harmless. We were taught as children to shuffle our feet when we walked on the bottom of the sea to warn the rays to get out of the way. Also to give sting rays and every other creature in the sea, plenty of room to maneuver and NOT TO MOLEST these creatures.
You can't tell me he wasn't right on top of this animal when it barbed him. It would be impossible for the ray to do the damage it did unless Irwin was TOO CLOSE. So don't worry about rays. Go in the sea. Rays are beautiful graceful creatures.

Not really. Read some articles saying they're not really vicious. Just don't swim near them. But I have seen some documentaries showing divers getting real close to the stingrays. Wonder what Steve did?

His death was a freak accident. Apparently, there've only been 7 recorded deaths from stingrays. I have been swimming with the stingrays off the Cayman Islands and certainly wasn't frightened. Basically, when your time comes, it comes. Don't stop living because of what MIGHT happen!

I guess this just shows us that every creature (be it a plant, animal or human) is equipped with the ability to defend themselves when in a situation where they feel threatened. It's a defense thing, for survival.

no you just need to be very causious[ careful] around any wild animal you never know what they are going too do , the accident with steve was very unfortunate as stingrays are usually very dosile however as i said be very careful around any wild animal they are very unpredictable

Nah I learned along time ago from watching Irwin that you shouldn't be stupid enough to bother dangerous animals. He was living on borrowed time.

just proved just how stupid and reckless he was. a lot of animals are harmless but when spooked the can turn vicious. look at possums, they play dead to detour predators but when cornered will fight. he just pushed his luck to far
