Basically your admitting that Jesus never said this. You need to 'read it' into some ambiguos passage.

Not arguments buddy, trying to educate. READ the questions, focus on them. You know they are legit and that YOU cannot answer them. Some christians answered other quite well and I give them a thumbs up. Are you incapable of answering?? then just admit it. Dont be a hypocrite.

The only thing that springs to mind is Matthew chapter 12:

"15Then went the Pharisees, and took counsel how they might entangle him in his talk.
16And they sent out unto him their disciples with the Herodians, saying, Master, we know that thou art true, and teachest the way of God in truth, neither carest thou for any man: for thou regardest not the person of men.
17Tell us therefore, What thinkest thou? Is it lawful to give tribute unto Caesar, or not?
18But Jesus perceived their wickedness, and said, Why tempt ye me, ye hypocrites?
19Shew me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny.
20And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription?
21They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.
22When they had heard these words, they marvelled, and left him, and went their way. "

EDIT:
Yes, in that specific instance, Jesus was talking about paying taxes. The passage is typically interpreted as meaning that we should give secular authority whatever is due to them, and that doing so does not affect one's relationship with God. It is obviously open to other interpretations, but this does seem to be point of the passage. Jesus never specifically said, "Obey the laws of the land."

For the record, I'm not a Christian. I only offerred the passage for reference.

I'm uncertain at what you're driving towards with this question. Are you attempting to insinuate that Christians should not obey the law because Jesus didn't specifically tell people to do so? Or are you suggesting that obedience to the law cannot be considered a Christian principle? Either way, the argument doesn't seem to hold up. Jesus never said, "Don't drive over cats with your car," but most Christians would agree that running over cats for the sake of it violates the principles of Christianity.

Am I misinterpreting?

Matthew 22:21 Render unto Ceasar.....
It basically means that submitting to the laws of the authorities around us is a good and apropriate thing when it is inevitable anyway and especially when these laws have nothing to do with religion.

Everyone please read C Junk's 360 page where he says he is an ex-Christian. He doesn't really take these questions seriously. He is trying to start arguments. His mind is already made up--he does not want real answers. Hypocrisy is his religion. That is, until he finds another comforting belief-system that will make him feel at home. then he will give up his Hypocrisy religion and start attacking it on Yahoo.

As far as I remember, He never used those exact words. The nearest He came was when he said "render to Caesar what is Caesar's".

I think there are also verses in the epistles, Romans I think in the latter part, that tells us to submit to authorities because they are institutedby God.
