Read up on all of them, every bit of info u can lay ur hands on. When u find the one for u, it will reach out to u. It will feel 'right' n u will probably develop a deep interest in it. Good luck, its a fascinating world- Mythology.

I will agree with the others that one should thoroughly research to find which cultures/deities draw you the most. It is a very interesting subject to study.

A bit of information: The Celts didn't really have a single "pantheon" of deities like some other cultures. There were many different tribes that were spread out over a vast amount of territory. It is vaguely similar to the Native Americans in that the NA's did not have a single set of deities that all tribes worshipped. The NA tribes of the Northwest would have been much different in their practices than those of the Florida area. The Irish Celts would have had different deities and myths than the Gaulish Celts; the Cornish Celts would have been much different from the Celts living in the Danube region. If you are interested in the Celts, I would recommend "The Gods of the Celts" and "The World of the Druids" by Miranda Green, "The Druids" by Stuart Piggot, and "The Ancient Celts" by Barry Cunliffe. There are many other good books--here two good recommended reading lists for Celtic studies:

One idea you could try would be to start with the culture(s) that your ancestors came from. Perhaps you would find something there that would draw you to it. I definitely recommend that you study academic sources rather than New Age sources because New Age sources are known for their historical inaccuracies. It is very frustrating to read those fictional books only to have to learn later that they were BS fantasy. (Been there, done that)

Was searching out gnomes for a friend and came across this question. For most your pantheon will pick you, research you history tree of life, family what is your background roots etc. Meditate on that breathing in and out slow like and really focus on that thought. When you have a vision quest, research that mythical creature and really lay the ground work. It is my only suggestion to you!

For me my heritage is Celtic so I cast a circle and asked for my goddess to show herself to me. As you can see from my blog Rhiannon is a Faery Queen. What I suggest to you is meditate in a sacred space and your deity will manifest.
Hope this helps you.

Good question. Probably one that has a good book.

oh yes a blvr is right. pick one deity even when you choose a pantheon. I know in hinduism the pantheon is meant to allow each his own personal god. which helps to realize the one Supreme.

but it would be cool just to learn about pantheons.

Do some reading about the different pantheons and see if something feels right to you. IMO, if you want to mix and match, there's nothing wrong with that. Go ahead and talk with Isis and Mercury or Athena and Thor if you feel like it.

Pick the highest form of Deity you can conceive and follow that Deity within the framework that is in place. Unless you can create better framework.

GOD bless ya!

Where are your beliefs pointing you? Which of the pantheons is closest to your beliefs?

You're looking for something to worship or to study? If it's to worship, I wouldn't bother with any. If it's to study... well, do some research. Can I say "google it" on Yahoo?
