I see your point. If we assume that god exists, then which is more likely to bring us to him:
a) kneeling and mumbling magickal phrases and arguing over which moldy old book is true; or
b) getting out there and experiencing the incredible gift that he/she/it/they gave us?

In my heart of hearts I believe God is a story teller and we are the books he sell's.
Each one unique and special, The problem is HE doesn't write the book WE DO.
We are given by the story teller (God) LIFE in that life we will meet some special and some NOT so special people. We will do some good things some bad, Some amazing things and some mundane things. It's up to us to decide what kind of book our Lives will read best as. It is up to us to decide what kind of character in the book of our lives a person will play. Will they be a supporting cast? Someone who shows up and leaves a sort of Fair Weather friend so to speak. Taking up a page or two of our life story? Or will this person be a Co Star? Someone who changes us, Teaches us something about ourselves. Someone who has a whole chapter of our lives devoted to them and the story of the two of you?
I think God has made it a very important aspect of our lives to try to figure him out BUT while we are figuring him out I think he wan't us to have as much fun as we can.
It is in our nature as humans to question things, Science is the answer to alot of those question and Religion is the answer to some of the other questions. Who is God? Was there ever an Adam and Eve? Who knows. What we do know is WE are here. We have so many different levels of a life we can achieve and with each one comes problems and FUN!

Agreed. Treating people with respect and living a life in a positive way doesn't have to have anything to do with God. It is nice to believe that maybe someone is watching over you though. As long as 'to the fullest' does not involve harming others etc. In light of recent events and the Sept 11 anniversary coming up, I think that it is a good reminder to follow your dreams. If you think about how many people in the twin towers may have considered themselves as being in crappy office jobs and then so shockingly were killed at work.....

Yes, because if we were meant to know everything about him or life we would have known it the day we were born, and as far as I know, no one on earth knows everything. However, he does want us to grow physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually along the way which means learning as much as we can along the way. Seek and ye shall find. Remember that?
And just to make a point, living life to the fullest is not a free license to live like a pack of wild animals with no morality, repect for others, and sense of responsibility for our actions. Examples: adultery( sleeping with any or everyone);Thou shalt not bear false witness(gossiping and ruining peoples lives),etc. I'm sure you know the others.

Jesus came so that we could have an "abundant life". This means both physically and spiritually, here on earth and throughout eternity.
Accepting His sacrifice on Calvary personally gives us many benefits. Complete physical healing, and access to our Father's fortune, as well as His protection. (He owns cattle on a thousand hills. He's also the "Captain of the Armies of Heaven"ly Angels.)
We can be free of want, poverty, and many other things if we understand how to access the benefits.
However, Jesus also taught that our life should not be driven by self, or the motive of "self-fulfillment". He taught us that we should "lay down our lives for others". That is the deeper part of Christianity that many people don't delve into.
As for trying to figure God out. No one ever could. But there is nothing wrong with trying to get to know Him. It is fun. The more you reach out to Him, the more He reveals Himself to you. He even has a sense of humor. Loves symbolism. (Read the Bible. Has the most symbolism of any other book!.) Getting to know God is the most exciting thing you can do in life. It results in amazing events. God wants to have a personal relationship with each one of us. When you have a relationship with someone, of course you try to "figure them out" as you get to know them.
Although I wouldn't say that God wants us to "figure him out" I do believe He appreciates it very much when we show an interest in getting to know Him as a real Being. My experiences with God have been profound and authentic. I wouldn't trade them for anything in the world!

The "living to the fullest" life you are referring to is an illusion. If you're true to your faith and you follow the right path, you have NO idea what real pleasure is. Worship and faith may seem boring and meaningless to you but ask someone who really is involved in it. Once you feel the pleasure of worship to the one true God, you will never want to go back to "living that life to the fullest" doing dirty things like drinking and having sex with any other woman. Even animals are better than that.

I rather think God would like me to live my life according to His word, rather than live it to the fullest. I have lived it His way, to the best of my God-given ability for 15 years, and I haven't regretted one moment. Trying to figure God out is like trying to count the grains of sand on an average beach! Go well, and God Bless!

We were created for one thing only: to be the Heirs of Heaven and so the only way to do that is to learn as much as we can about God and to serve him which does not include skydiving and taking silly risks and having a great Godless time all the time.

If you made something that was as amazing as a human is, wouldn't you want them to seek you out? God wants us to seek Him. He promises to reveal Himself to those who will seek Him, and love Him. I don't think life can truly be lived to the fullest without God.

When you figure him out you learn to live your life to the fullest. He is the source of true fullfillment.
So you aren't asking to chose between two competing ideas...they are the same.
It's like, "Do we change the color of the sky to blue or not"?
