We have a thirteen week old kitten and he's a little on the wee side. Tostop him getting into rooms he shouldn't we thought we'd invest in a pet gate, but they're all designed for puppies. Any one got any ideas how we can keep him out of rooms in the house??

No chicken wire ideas though please...

Cats love to roam and explore, which makes it even harded to keep them in one room. I'd suggest closing the door or using a cardboard box. Since he is still 13 weeks, he shouldn't be able to jump over it yet, also if you give him a little toy to play with he might like the room better.

My little kitten was sorta like yours, she was underweight when she was 13 weeks too and she loved exploring so we just let her roam the first floor. As she got tired of the first floor she grew more interest of the second floor and tried to jump over the boxes we used to permit her from going up the stairs. It is fun watching her grow as she is now 4 months and at a healthy weight.

you could try putting some spray on the walls/doors of the rooms u dont want her/he to go into and its a special cat repellent spray to keep them away because they dont like the smell but its safe for the cats or u could at night time put the kitten in a carrier box for the first 2 months while shes getting bigger only for the nighttime and in the day maybe put her in one particular room where u can see her and make sure shes alright hope this answer is a good enough hope i helped

You might as well give it up. The only way to keep a cat out of forbidden rooms is shut the door. And then some cats, like mine, will learn a talent for jumping on the doornob and turning it opening the door anyways...cats are smarter than you think....

I'm not sure, but they should make crates for cats and kittens. May want to check at the vets office and see if they have one small enough, if not, try closing the door to the room you want to keep him in until he's big enough for the crate. Don't forget to give him some toys to play with or you could end up with shredded curtains or wood.

When I had foster kittens I needed to keep in one room I went to a plastic store and rummaged through their scrap bin. I found a nice piece of plastic that went about halfway up the door height and the kittens couldn't get a grip on it to climb over and "escape" their room. I could just slide the plastic aside to get in and out of the room.

You could get some netting from a gardening centre to put over the pet gate, or maybe they'd have something sturdier that you can just tie across doors by itself. Or keep doors shut?

Cats love adventure. The only thing I can think of is to close the doors to the rooms he is forbidden. My cat rules most of the house. My bedroom is off limits unless I am in there to supervise. Your cat (though small---he/she doesn't know he/she is small!) wants to see everything and explore. Good luck and try to compromise as much as you can.

If you really need to keep her contained while you can't supervise her, there are cages designed for cats. But they can't spend all there time there, only when you are gone or to busy to "babysit". If your up to the challenge, how about putting up a screen door inside so she can see out, you can see her and she is safe.

Unless you close the door and lock him in(which is mean)there isn't much you can do. Cats have an amazing ability to climb and escape anything!! Good Luck!
